Dalai Lama stresses peace

The Dalai Lama here on Wednesday stressed on peaceful solution for every problem and expressed his belief that world peace begins with inner peace.

The Tibetan spiritual leader was in the Manipur capital city in his maiden visit to the state. A grand reception function “Peace and Harmony” was organised by the state government to honour the Dalai Lama who arrived here on Tuesday in a two-day visit to the north-eastern state.

At the event, he noted that the European countries ultimately grouped together to form the European Union after they learnt that nothing comes from war. The Dalai Lama stated that violence and conflict are pointless because bring no any good result at all.

Peaceful solution to every problem is the right step of everyone. Respecting others’ beliefs is very important, he said.

The Dalai Lama said harmony among different religions is very essential, adding that all can serve humanity to bring inner peace.

“We’re same human beings, no differences. You and me, we’re same. Everyone has the right to carry happy life,” he said.

Commenting on diverse beliefs, the Dalai Lama cited India as the example and said that besides home-grown different Dharma traditions—Sankhya philosophy, Jain philosophy, Buddhist philosophy and then later Sikhism are all home-grown religions of India.

Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand Singh was also present during the event.

Addressing media here the Dalai Lama emphasized on the importance of media turning aside from reporting violence and other incidents urging the media to make peace and harmony among different communities by making it a focal point with their major role.

The Dalai Lama’s Manipur trip came on the invitation of Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand Singh.

Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways PonRadhakrishnan here on Saturday announced that based on demand of the Manipur government for sanction of work under Central Road Fund (CRF), additional Rs 25 crore will be considered in addition to available ceiling of Rs 26 crore during 2017-18. A 24-year-old youth reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself inside a hotel room at Babupara on Wednesday. Reports said Konsam Chandrakriti, son of late K Chandrakanta Singh of Ramnagar Tuko of Silchar within Assam’s Cachar district, was found dead inside Hotel Star this morning. He hanged himself with a khudei (clothe) inside his hotel room. Some employees of the hotel informed the police after he did not give any response when they called him from outside the room. The door of the room was found closed from inside. A team of Jiri police arrived there and broke the door open when he was found hanging from the ceiling. The police have started investigation into the death.
In a suspected case of human trafficking, three young girls from Manipur, who were taken to Karnataka on pretext of providing jobs, were rescued at Shimoga district of Karnataka. The trio were rescued during a joint operation carried out by Karnataka police, Imphal West police and Women Helpline ‘181,’ as per a report. It said the girls will be handed over to their parents with the help of the Social Welfare Department. Women in distress have been appealed to use any time the toll free telephone number 181 of Women Helpline ‘181’ for help. The report also appealed to all leaders, apex bodies, village and religious leaders and media to help fight human trafficking in the state.  
One suspected swine flu (H1N1) death has been reported at a private hospital here on Monday. The patient, hailing from Imphal East, suffered from symptoms similar to that of pandemic swine flu, officials said. The patient died at Rajmedicity, North AOC around 9 am. The suspected deadly swine flu patient admitted to the hospital on July 21. Officials said the patient had been put on ventilator support in the isolation ward of the hospital where his condition deteriorated. A family is mourning after an 18-year-old girl was shot to death allegedly by her “boyfriend” at Moreh town bordering Myanmar early on Sunday. A 3.6 magnitude earthquake jolted Manipur on Sunday triggering the fear of the 2015 like one which caused huge damage to the northeastern state. The earthquake, which originated in Ukhrul district struck the state at around 1.36 AM forced many people to wake up and the panic stricken people in the high rise buildings started coming down to the open space.
