Yet another witch hunting incident fans no less shock and anger across the on Monday two days after it came to light.
The incident took place at a remote helmet in Chirang district bordering Bhutan where thr body of the victim was recovered on Saturday.
Identified as Guneswar Basumatary, the local resident of Koila Moila near Dotom was believed to have been killed alleging witch craft.
According to family members,Guneswar went missing on September 16 evening he visited his relative's house at Koila Moila area. Family members lodged an FIR with Amguri PS,case number 45/2017, under section 302/201 IPC.
During a search operation, police and family members recovered body in decomposed condition. He was murdered on suspect of witch craft,family members said.
Investigation is on into incident,said a police officer in Chirang.
The Chirang district unit of ABSU condemned the incident and demanded early arrest of culprits. Investigation should be speedy up into incident, the ABSU said.
Assam forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma also condemned the killing of a person on suspect of witch craft at remote Dotma. She has urged the district administration to take bold step against incident.

In a bizarre incident on the new year’s day, a woman and her two children were hacked to death allegedly by her teenaged stepson on Tuesday in Koliabar of Nagaon district. Identified as Mohamad Ali hacked to death his step mother a sharp weapon after an argument at Kunduli village. He then attacked her minor daughter and son killing them on the spot. A 24 year old youth had a narrow escape when his vehicle caught fire at Demow in Sivasagar district on Monday.The incident took place early in the morning when his dumper touched a high voltage electric wire. The driver managed to escape death but he was injured. He was rushed to the hospital.

Police picked up a tea garden worker in connection with the Konapathar case where the owner of the tea estate and his wife were charred to death. DGP JN Chaudhury, who visited Tinsukia on Sunday said that a few more accused would be picked up within a day or two. According to information, nine workers have been accused and eight others would be arrested. The identity of the apprehended suspect has not been divulged so that the process is not hampered.
