Army worms wreaking havoc in Kojrajhar

Army worms start wreaking no less havoc in the paddy field in Kokrajhar damaging crops on a huge area to the tune of 3000 hectares in the post flood situation forcing the authorities to step in.

 Agriculture department officials have been visiting the affected areas with medicines. The worst hit areas include Bhotgaon Sonamaipara area in Kokrajhar district where the department has been holding an awareness programme making facility availablefor spraying of medicines to control army worms along the paddy land.

  Hassorddin Sheik, agriculture extension assistant(AEA) in Kokrajhar who visited Sonamoipara area under Titaguri ADO said that over 3000 hectares of paddy land were affected due to army worms in the district. He said that the worms generally attack the paddy plants with damaging paddy’s growth and develop.

 The agriculture department has been giving sufficient medicines to counter the situation with immediate measures to control attacks. He has appealed farmer and citizens not to be worried over the growing attacks of army worms in the district as the situation under controlled now.

MN Swargiyary, district agriculture officer, Kokrajhar said that the affected paddy lands have come under control so far with stern measures.The department has been supplying medicines and necessary materials among farmers to check the Hur Phoks along the paddy crops in the district .No new engulf of Hur Phok was reported in the district,he claimed.

‘Nearly eighty percent of the affected paddy lands are reached under controlled in the district with safe and controlled. Medicines and several requirements are being distributed among the affected farmers to check the menace in the area’, Swargiyary added.

  Momin Ali, a farmer of Sonamoipara said that paddy crops are being seeing damaged due to engulfed by Hur Phok since few days. The phoks have caused several hectares of paddy lands in the area. Even though, officials reached here with medicines, yet could not checked properly as diseases were noticed few days back in the area.

 

Aminur Islam, another farmer from Bhotgaon area said that the caterpiller was noticed after recent flood in the district. The attack on paddy crop has been found severe condition as phoks engulfed in speedy manner which caused severely,he said.
