Union minister for chemical and fertilizer Ram Vilash Paswan on Tuesday inaugurated a National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research centre in Guwahati to further boost the state’s health sector.
The national level autonomous institute was inaugurated at a function organized at the ITA, Machkhowa in the city by union minister for chemical, fertilizer and steel minister Ram Vilash Paswan.
In his address, Paswan said, “We are still lagging behind in the pharmaceutical sector. It needs to be improved.”
Addressing the function attended also by Union minister of state for chemical and fertilizer Bijoy Krishna Handique, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said his government has a slew of schemes to uplift the various sectors in the state.
Notably, the main objectives of the national level institute include ensuring state-of-the-art infrastructure of pharmaceutical study and research, addressing the increasing demand of medicine manufacturing industry.
The Assam Government has allotted a plot measuring 100 bighas while Guwahati Medical College principal Dr M N Deka has been posted as the director of the institute.
