The Asom Gana Parishad, a vital constituent of the BJP-led government in Assam has reiterated it's opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
Thr regional party made its position clear when a delegation met Union home minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Wednesday. Led by party president Atul Bora, thr delegation told Singh not to proceed with this deal.
The party leaders stressed immediate implementation of the Assam Accord, 1985 in letter and spirit by detecting and deporting the Bangladeshi immigrants who came to settle in the state after the cut off date.
The delegation met President of India reiterating the demands amid speculation of a widening differences with BJP over the controversial bill which if made an Act will enable the Hindu illegal settlers to get a refugee status across the country.
