Bandh hits Chapormukh

Normal life in Chapormukh area in the central Assam district of Nagaon comes to a grinding halt on Sunday following a local bandh call by a few organizations in protest against the recent attack on former rebels at Panigaon. 

Roads in this area are remaining deserted as vehicles are off from the roads. Shops and markers are not opening anywhere in the entire area under the impact of the bandh call which began at 6.00 in the morning. 

Apprehending stray incidents, the security forces ate fanning in the area from early in the morning. The bandh supporters in many places are moving to enforce the call. There is no report of any incident. The bandh ends in the evening. 

A trader along with a few of his associates severally assaulted a team of former rebels as they were raising funds to feed the flood hit people.

RAHA: Police in Raha have caught Ratul Nath on Friday two days after the inmate in the Jorhat Central Jail vanished under mysterious circumstances. Ratul, a murder convict was held in the morning hours after he reached his home. He confessed to have escaped from the jail and reached Dergaon on foot and then he boarded on a truck to reach Raha who police arrested against to send back to Jorhat. A local court in Nagaon convicted him in a shocking murder case and sent him to the Jorhat Central Jail.     
RAHA: An ongoing statewide strike by the All Assam Municipality Employees' Association leaves the urban areas no less filthy on Friday on second day. Raha, a tiny town in Nagaon district bears the brunt of the strike which is set to end only on February 11.  RAHA: A local woman died in Raha when she was knocked down by a car in the convoy of a minster on Monday spreading shock and anger across the state.   The bizarre incident took place in the morning when water resources minister Keshab Mahanta’s convoy was on the way to Nagaon.     As the convoy arrived in Saragaon, the woman tried to quickly cross the four-lane highway where one the cars knocked down the woman. Identified as Minu Devi, the inhabitant  of Pub Saragaon village died on the spot. But the local residents here blamed it all on the minister’s convoy for rash driving which resulted in the tragic incident.       
The Raha police have achieved success when they intercepted a huge quantity of ganja during the last couple of months.  The police on Wednesday burnt down a huge heap of ganja worth ₹20,000 at an open space. These, mostly, were intercepted from the trains at the Chapormukh Junction.   These were burnt down at Titaimari in presence of railway SP Pradeep Pujari along with thr excise department officials.
Despite stringent measures in the banking transactions a section of customers has been complaining mysterious disappearance of money from their accounts.  In yet another bizarre incident, a customer in Roha State Bank of India claimed to have lost money from her saving account.  According to what she has complained before the bank authority, Jayanti Bhuyan, the account holder said that she somebody had withdrawn money from her saving account bearing No11689552300.  As she came to the bank to update her passbook,Bhuyan on Wednesday found it strange to have seen that ₹59,000 was withdrawn from her account on Tuesday which she was not in the know. ...
In a major achievement, police recovered stolen goods worth more than ₹30 lakh during an vigorous search operation in Roha on Wednesday. Acting on a tip off, a team of police led by Nagaon circle inspector Ranjit Moran raided the residence of  Phoorkan Ali at Monipurtup village where the huge heap of stolen goods were recovered from the granary. Ali, himself is believed to have been the gang member involved in a number of  robbery cases on the National Highway No 37. Now policemen probing the case have been fanning in search of Ali who is absconding. A 38-year-old man and his 6-year-old son were run over by a speeding vehicle early on Tuesdaymorning at Demow area under Raha P.S. The deceased  identified as  Raju Patar and his son Rajmoni Patar were going to a relative’s house riding a bicycle. Geetamoni Patar , wife of  the deceased was also with them when the accident took place.  According to  police , Raju Patar died on the spot and  his son declared dead while brought to hospital along with deceased's wife. The deceased Raju Patar was an inhabitant of Balipara village of Demow area.
One person died another sustained serious injury when the bike which they were riding on collided on a truck from the backside in Nagaon district on Friday.  The incident took place early in the morning on the National Highway in Raha. Eye witnesses told Assam Times that the bikers who were coming from the Guwahati side speedily hit the truck.  “Both the truck and the two wheeler caught fire where one of the bikers died on the spot. The Nagaon police probing the recent assault on a group of former rebels, have arrested two more youths on Thursday.  Identified as Pintu Das and Pranjal Bora, the due were said to have been hired by the tractor dealer Raju Das to thrash the former rebels. Police interrogation is going on. On the other hand, the Assam government on Wednesday transferred additional superintendent of police Sanjeev Saikia to Baska in the same capacity following the allegations that he also beat up the former rebels who were raising funds to feed the flood hit people.
