Naga peace framework in final stage

Convenor of the NSCN-IM Steering Committee, Rh Raising said that the August 3, 2015 Framework Agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM is now at the final stage. 

“We are now at the final stage. We have drafted, they have drafted and exchanged our point of views. We have decided what we have already agreed; now we are in the final stage. Almost 90 percent is completed. We have yet to work on some papers,” replied Raising to queries from the media during the 71st Naga Independence Day celebration at the NSCN-IM’s Council Headquarters, Hebron on Monday.   

According to Raising, the Agreement is about the recognition of the sovereign right of the Nagas, recognition of the Naga identity, about the territory and integration of the Nagas of the Nagas. 

Prodded further on the palpable secrecy surrounding the Agreement, he only replied, “That is all, I have spoken about it. This framework agreement embraces all issues.” 

Earlier during the programme, Raising had said that the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 is based on the unique history of the Nagas. 

He said that basing on the principle - “Sovereignty lies with the people,” Nagas and India have agreed that sovereignty resides in each. “However, for bringing an honourable solution, peace and progress in the land the two peoples shall co-exist as two entities sharing sovereign power in some areas… To settle our issue with India, an agreement with India is indispensable.” 

“This Framework Agreement will be the beginning of a new relationship between India and the Nagas.” 

Meanwhile, representatives of frontal Naga organisations of Nagaland, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, who attended the function, reiterated the call for unity and inclusivity of all Nagas. 

The unification of all Naga Political Groups under one common platform, inclusion and taking into consideration the aspiration and desire of all Nagas irrespective of imaginary political boundaries was the common refrain of the speeches from representatives of the Naga Hoho, Naga Mothers Association (NMA), Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights, United Naga Council, Eastern Naga Peoples Organisation, Naga Students Federation, Tirap Changlang Longding Peoples Forum (TCLPF), Zeliangrong Boudi NC Hills, Naga Council Dimapur and the United Naga Tribes Association of Border Areas.

Contraband items worth Rs 12 crore seized

IMPHAL, Mar 14 : In one of the biggest recoveries of contraband items in recent times, troops of 12 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles apprehended a drug peddler with brown sugar and WY tablets worth approximately Rs 11.96 crore near Tengnoupal on March 13. Acting on specific input, a TATA Sumo Grande(Regd No TR01 U 0250) was stopped at MVCP Tengnoupal at about 1800 hours yesterday and on through checking of the vehicle, 138 packets of brown sugar weighing 1.865 kg and 450 packets containing 90,000 WY tablets were found very well concealed inside the vehicle, as per a release from PRO of IGAR (S) on Wednesday. New migratory birds sighted at Loktak Lake

All old vehicles to be converted to electric vehicles by 2020

All old petrol and diesel vehicles in the country are set to convert to all-electric vehicles by installing kits by 2020. This was informed to the media by senior scientist Robindro Lairenlakpam from the Indian Institute of Petroleum Council of Scientific and Industrial Research at the Press Club here on Tuesday. He said the plan would be completed by 2020 during which 60-70 lakh old vehicles are to be converted to electric-vehicles. Drugs seized in Manipur

 Drugs worth Rs 3 crore were intercepted here on Saturday by police and arrested a man in connection with the incident. Police said 72,000 pieces of WY tablets and 286 gm of heroin were uncovered from a sand-loaded mini truck around noon. They identified the drug peddler as Nongmaithem Ranjit, 56, son of Dolanjao of Nambol Heikrujam Nongmaithem Leikai within Bishnupur district. The drug haul could have fetched more than Rs 3 crore if it had been allowed to hit the streets. Steps to check border influx

One killed, three hurt in hit-and-run accident

IMPHAL, Jan 3 (NENA): One cyclist was mowed down and three others were injured in a hit-and-run car accident last night, hitting one person after another in Imphal East’s Hatta and NRL pump at Khurai.   The deceased identified as Thangjam Paka, 56, resident of Khurai Thangjam Leikai, died near Khurai NRL pump after the Santro car hit and dragged him along the road about 100 ft. Militants involved in driver kidnapping held
