JFA appreciates Agartala court verdict

Journalists’ Forum Assam appreciated a recent court verdict in favour of many media employees of Tripura who used to work for various media outlets of Matang Sinh owned North East Multi Media. The West Tripura district & session court on Monday declared the closure of North East Multi Media without compensating its employees, including scribes, who eventually lost their jobs eight years ago, was illegal.

It may be noted that senior Congress leader & former Union minister in PM Narsimha Rao’s cabinet, who is presently facing the multi crore chit-fund scam, run a number of satellite including NETV, NE HiFi, NE Bangla, Hmar TV, Focus TV, HyTV etc which were later get closed. Sinh launched NE Bangla on 7 August 2007 from Agartala. Now he is lodged in a Kolkata jail.

“We welcome the court verdict and express hopes that it would bring relief to all the affected media persons. We also congratulate Prasenjit Chakravartty for continuing the legal battle against the concerned media authority,” said a statement issued by JFA president Rupam Barua and secretary Nava Thakuria.
