Public rally in Golaghat by AASU against illegal immigrants
A public rally was organized by All Assam Students Union (AASU) in Golaghat on 10th September in a bid to sensitise people against the burning problem of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. A documentary was showen on the rally showcasing various events from Assam movement, how the government failed to stop the flow of Bangladeshi immigrants to Assam through the porous India-Bangladesh border to the recent verdict of Gauhati High Court on Kamaluddin, a Pakistani national who came to Assam from Bangladesh and contested election from Jamunamukh constituency of Assam. Addressing a crowd of around five thousand people Mr. Sankar Prasad Roy, President, AASU, said that all the political parties whether it is national or regional used the problem of Bangladeshi infiltration to gain political mileage and therefore AASU has to come forward, time and again, to treat and solve the issue in a an honest and sincere manner. Mr. Roy also said that today there are only two options available before the people of Assam, either to kneel before the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants or all the people of Assam irrespective of their cast, creed or religion must unite and strongly resist the threat to our identity crisis by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya, adviser of AASU and President of North East Students Union (NESO), said that they have to face the question of breach of trust and sometimes people questions about their sincerity regarding the problem of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants . He admitted that there has been a breach of trust caused by some former leaders of AASU. These public rallies are part of the AASU initiative to win back the confidence of the people of Assam and seek their advice in fighting the problem of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, he added. In his speech Dr. Bhattacharya, pointed out the loopholes of the amended Foreigners Act according to which children of illegal immigrants came to India upto the year 2004 will be given citizenship and because of this Act, the children of Kamaluddin an illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who has been deported recently by an order of Gauhati High Court, still lives in Assam. He said that AASU has not taken the law in its hand as alleged by Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi, it is the Chief Minister himself, who has not exercised his lawful power to deport the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. He further called upon the people of Assam to socially and economically boycott the illegal Bangladeshis. Dr. Bhattacharya dares Chief Minister of Assam to take steps from tomorrow onwards to deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who entered Assam after March 25, 1971.

A lower primary school teacher was abducted by some unknown men from his school in Kowani situated at the remote border area along the border of Golaghat-Karbi Anglong district today. 55-year-old Gobind Goswami, the Head Master of No.2 Kowani Paharline LP School was abducted from his school premise by a group of three armed Adivasi youth at around 1.30 pm.
