Prof Devy conferred UNB Soldier of Humanity award

Renowned literary critic  Prof. Ganesh N. Devy of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda was presented fourteenth edition of Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award-2017 at a programme held at ITA Machkowa in Guwahati on Thursday.

The award has been instituted by the Upendra Nath Brahma Trust, is named after Bodofa (Father of Bodo nationalist assertion) Upendra Nath Brahma, who led the Bodo statehood movement spearheaded by the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), which is a highest award presented from Bodos.

The trust conferred the prestigious award to Prof. Devy for his immense contribution towards languages of the tribes in India. Besides, his relentless activism for protection, preservation and development of tribal languages, especially languages of de-notified tribes has really earned him laurels across the globe. His untiring efforts to standby for the cause of tribes and marginalized communities in India are unparallel one. Prof Devy was awarded Padmashri and Sahitya Akademi.

Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury, former VC of Guwahati University, who graced as chief on the occasion,former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma,Lawrence Islary, general secretary of ABSU presented the award to Prof. Devy in the presence of Bodo leaders, intellectuals, students and youth in large numbers. The award comprises of a memento, citation, cash 1, 00,000; Indi shawl and an Aaronai.

Among others,senior journalists Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Maini Mahanta,Taren Boro,president of Bodo sahitya sabha,Dr Subung Basumatary,chairman of the trust were prominent attendees on the occasion with Adip Kumar Phukan,senior journalist in the chair.

KOKRAJHAR: A Ganja smuggler was shot at by police in the Bishmuri area of Kokrajhar district late Wednesday night. The incident happened  in Kokrajhar in Bishmuri. KOKRAJHAR: The police nabbed three people with 91 Kgs of Ganja on Karigaon national highway in Kokrajhar on Wednesday.. The arrested persons were identified as Hasanur Rahman, Mithun Miya of Mankachar and Mukesh Kumar of Bihar. The smuggled Ganja was bound for Bihar from Agartala in a Scorpio vehicle, bearing registration no.BR 11V-7551.
BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary was granted bail on Saturday and released against case CR 34/2020, accused of section 120-B/500 IPC from CJM court in Kokrajhar. Pramod Boro, the president of the United People’s Party of Luwahati, filed a complaint against  Mohilary, the former chief of Bodoland Territorial Council, at the court of CJM Kokrajhar for making derogatory remarks about him in February 2020. KOKRAJHAR: Two people were killed on the spot in a late-night road accident in Balajan Pakriguri under Kokrajhar police station. According to police, two people were travelling on a bike and met with mishaps that claimed two people on the spot at a roadside parking dumper in Pakriguri along JD Road late at night around 2.15 am on Tuesday night under Kokrajhar police station. Kokrajhar: The first ever edition of the All Assam Prize Money Non-Ranking Badminton Championship-2021 concluded on Tuesday after a two-day programme was scheduled to be held at the indoor stadium of the Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) in Kokrajhar district. At least three persons died and several others received injuries due to the lightning struck at Anthaibari under Bengtol police outpost in Chirang district on Wednesday afternoon. According to the source, three persons have died and several other people from Anthaibari area received serious injuries due to heavy lightning this afternoon while people were watching a football match at Anthaibari playground. The injured persons were immediately rushed to the Bengtol missionary hospital where three persons were declared brought dead.
