Khango Kanyak in the helm of NSCN-K

Senior Naga rebel leader Khango Kanyak will succeed SS Khaplang, the NSCN-K chairman who passed away at a Myanmar hospital on Friday.

Kanyak, who is known for his relentless revolt in search of thr greater Nagalim is set to take the reign of the outfit in a day or two.  Top rebels are believed to have agreed to put Kanyak, the vice chairman in the helm of affairs.

He joined the outfit in 1963 and visited China and Pakistan and in 2011 he was selected as the second in command of the decade old Naga rebel outfit who has been responsible for a number of dreaded attacks on the security forces in the north eastern region.

The bereaved north eastern rebels bade a tearful farewell to Khaplang on Saturday in Myanmar a day after the NSCN(K) died in the neighbouring country.

A pall of gloom descended in Nagaland where the political leaders, parties, organizations and individuals widely condoled the death of the legendary rebel.
