Women Empowerment Programme held at Dhing College
Dhing College Science Forum in association with UGC GDA organised a day long free health awareness and check-up camp as a part of the Extension Activities Programme here on Thursday.The camp was formally declared open by Dr. S. K. Dutta, Principal, Dhing College. A team of doctors and nursing staff headed by Dr. D. C. Roy, SDHMO, Dhing FRU attended the programme and extended free medical and health services and aids to the students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the college.
Earlier, Dhing College Women Cell also organised a programme entitled “Role of Self-Help Groups in Women Empowerment with the financial assistance of UGC GDA as part of their extension services towards the community and rural women in particular. The programme was chaired by Mrs. M. Neog, Vice Principal and President of DCWC which was attended by the students and teaching staff and local women entrepreneurs. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Mrinal Bora, CO, Dhing Revenue Circle. S. Ganguli, EO, DIC, Nagaon district attended the programme as the chief guest. Both the speakers dwelt at length the role of the self-help groups in helping and empowering poor women living in rural areas of Assam. A total of four local women self-help groups, who participated in the programme, displayed their products and sold out in an exhibition organised on that occasion. The College has also undertaken a field work on adult education in some selected villages under the Dhing and Batadraba Revenue Circles, informs Dr. S. K. Dutta, Principal, Dhing College.

A motorcyclist and his pillion rider were critically injured when a Mahindra Bolero SUV hit their bike on the Nizdimou Bypass near Bebejia, Nagaon on Sunday evening. In a shocking incident, a 50 year old man named Tapan Pal of Juria in the Nagaon district woke up while he was being taken to the funeral. The incident happened on Saturday afternoon when his family members and relatives presuming the man to be dead and asked fellow villagers to prepare Tapan for his last rites and funeral. Upgradation and improvement of Borduwa-Baribazar PWD link road in Batadrava, Nagaon has started on Friday. The 8.20 km long road to be constructed under Assam State road project (World Bank aided) at an estimated cost of Rs 14.41crore will benefit the inhabitants of Batadrava, Dhaniabhety, Gosaikhanda,Baribazar and its adjoining areas. The Jamunamukh police probing the recent gangrape and murder of a teacher arrested a youth on Thursday. Sources told Assam Times that acting on an input by a minor boy, police arrested Selimuddin, a local resident in thus connection. Sensation prevailed at Kawoimari, Barchunghat in Kampur following recovery of a woman's body on Wednesday afternoon in the Kapili river. The body was discovered by some local people who noticed the body floating in the river. They immdiately called the police. The body is sent for autopsy. The woman was aged around 50 years. Meanwhile, local people of Kawoimari suspected the incident as a case of murder after rape. "She was raped by miscreants before she was killed. Several injury marks were also visible on her body", a local said. Police have started their investigation.
