PM arriving in Nagaon today
On the eve of the PM's arrival in Nagaon city, no stone has been left unturned to ensure foolproof security arrangements by the district administration. The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will address a public meeting at Nehrubali today at 2 pm on his way back to Guwahati from Jorhat. The Prime Minister will today at 12.00 pm lay the foundation of a new medical college in Assam- Jorhat Medical College.The district authority of Nagaon today announces 'local holiday' for PM's arrival in the city. A team of Doordarshon tv from New Delhi has already arrived in the city to telecast the live programme of Dr Singh's visit to Nagaon.The Minister of state Forest and Tourism, Rockibull Hussain confirms that the public meeting will be attended by not less than 50,000 people. A number of C C camera has been set up in and around the Nehrubali meeting ground as part of the security measures by the district administration.

The delay in the construction of two bridges at Raha under four-lane express highway project remains a cause for serious concern. The construction of the bridges is, being done by Madhucon, moving at a snail’s pace, putting a large number of vehicle users to hardship. A major part of the highway is also kept blocked with gravel, sand,chips and soil resulting in fatal accidents becoming commonplace on the stretch and traffic snarls becoming routine. Over a dozen two-wheeler riders and pedestrians have been killed in accidents on the badly-maintained roads and bridges on the stretch during the past one year.

A three year old baby elephant was brutally killed by a group of senseless mob near Jagiroad in Morigaon district on October 26 . According to the eyewitness,the calf with severe injury missed the herd and was loitering alone with a painful body in the swampy area of a village. Seeing the calf at such a condition, the group of villagers soon attacked the calf with sharp weapons like knife, axe bamboo etc. sticks and beaten it unto death. Traffic movement in the Raha town bazzar area has become extremely difficult due to deplorable road condition for the last 2 years. About 500 dwellers of Raha bazzar area are suffering badly as the Public Works Department (PWD) is not taking any measure to repair the damaged road. In view of growing criminal activities, the Chapormukh Police Outpost was set up to curb the same many years ago.Unfortunately, manpower crisis,lack of vehicles, poor infrustucture are the three major problems being faced by the Outpost since its establishment.
