The United Liberation Front of Asom observed its foundation day on Friday reiterating its struggle for an independent Assam compelling authorities to tighten security across the state.
ULFA cadres have observed the day at Kakopathar where the outfit in rank and file vowed to carry forward the struggle to make Assam free of decade old exploitation.
Those who have already claimed to have eschewed the path of violence observed the day at the designated camps where the leaders and cadres turned emotional. The celebration began with the hoisting of the flags to be followed by discussion on the future course of action.
The outfit was founded by Arabinda Rajkhowa, Arup Chetia, Pradeep Gogoi et al at a meeting at the Rong Ghar campus on April 7, 1979.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is all set to expand his cabinet with the induction of four ministers anew on Tuesday. Governor PB Acharya will administer the new ministers the oath of office and secrecy at a brief function at the Raj Bawan in the morning. The four ministers include Gautom Roy and Siddique Ahmed.Last year, Gogoi dropped Siddique Ahmed for dissidence while Roy was sacked after the massive reshuffle. Moreover, the 13 new parliamentary secretaries and the four ministers would get their portfolios towards the evening.
Chief Information Commissioner Himangshu Sekhar Das is dead opposed to any change in the existing RTI Act. He only wants altering the rules for faster disposal of queries. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Monday, Das said “We can change the rules so that the disposal of information is faster and more accurate." According to him, the implementation of the Act has brought in more transparency and has affected the decision making process of the government in a positive way.

To set up a pharmaceuticals manufacturing factory in Chaygaon, Palasbari areas in Kamrup district. An Assam government panel dealing with the state’s industrial development observed adverse impact of the withdrawal of the North East Industrial Investment policy. Preside over by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, the meeting of the committee expressed grave concern over the setback to the investment due to the Centre’s decision to withdraw the policy. The meeting, however, suggested more industrial units outside Guwahati which would be encouraged with more incentives.Industry minister Basanta Das, additional Chief Secretaries, R.T.Jindal, Subhash Das, K.V.
