Northeast’s well-known healthcare institution Dispur Hospitals, along with numerous health conscious organizations across the globe, today (9 March 2017) observed the World Kidney Day with various programs including a free health camp at the hospital premises.
With an aim to increase public awareness about a healthy lifestyle paving the way to keep the kidneys fit, a walkathon was organized at the Ganeshguri locality of the pre-historic city in the morning hours. Journalist Nava Thakuria in presence of Dr Jayanta Bardoloi, managing director of Dispur Hospitals flagged off the program.
It may be noted that the kidney day is observed globally on 2nd Thursday of March every year. It started the voyage in 2006 with 66 countries which now increases nearly 100 today. The celebrations emphasize on the importance of two kidneys, which are smaller in size, but very much responsible to keep a human body alive.
The celebration highlights on regular and systematic screening of kidneys of those individuals who suffer from diabetes and high blood pressure which may lead to the chronic kidney diseases. Moreover, the observation aims to encourage the process of kidney donation & transplantation as a best option of life saving.
The free kidney check-up camp at the hospital premises was conducted by Dr PM Deka, Dr TA Choudhury, Dr Joynil Bagwade and Dr Rohan Batra, where over hundred participants received necessary consultations on nephrology and urology.
Dispur Hospitals’ public relation officer Ujjal Saikia, while elaborating the available facilities including the 24-hour dialysis, home (delivery) dialysis, image-guided kidney biopsy, kidney transplantation, AVF creation, permcath insertion etc in affordable costs, offered thanks to everyone who participated in the programs pursuing for healthy kidneys meaning a longer and productive life-span.
Guljar Hussain was buried with full state honour in his ancestral home in Bihpuria on Wednesday a day after the additional superintendent of police in Sonitpur district died in an ambush by NDFB-S.Thousands thronged at his residence on Monday night to pay their past respect to the lifeless Hussain after it was brought to Bihpuria.His was buried on Wednesday at 10 in the morning in presence of top ranked police and civil officials along with hundreds of his friends and relatives.
A speeding train in Guwahati crushed to death a person from Mongoldoi on Wednesday morning.The shocking incident took place near the Saraighat Bridge when the Ashiruddin Ahmed who worked with the agriculture department was on his way to the city on official duty. He hailed from Shantipur in Mongoldoi. Later his body was rushed to his residence after clearing the post mortem formalities.
Sensational revelations have come to light after the powerful grenade explosion severed hands of Raju Ali in Sivasagar town on Tuesday.Ali told police that he saw two motorcycle born youths lobbed the grenade at him. But according to sources, he was an army informer and he kept some explosives inside his home in BG Road near the Station Chariali. Notably, crude bombs were found in and around his residents at regular intervals. The explosion took place at his house at around 11 in the morning. Ali’s hands were severed under the impact of the explosion.Later security forces recovered one more crude bomb inside his house. Ali was rushed to the Assam Medical College Hospital....

An irate mob in Dhekiajuli vandalized NDFB’s designated camp hours after Sonitpur additional S Guljar Hussian and a policemen were killed in an encounter at Haulangi on Tuesday.Local residents in large number came out the street and thronged the NDFB designated camp. A section of the people attacked several pro talk militants while some others vandalized the designated camp.Later security forces rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday ordered intensified action against NDFB-S militants after they killed Sonitpur’s additional SP Guljar Hussain and a policeman at an encounter in Dhekiajuli in the morning.Talking to reporters at the Assam Assembly secretariat in Dispur, Gogoi said that the government won’t allow the Bodo militant outfits to carry out any attack further.

A powerful grenade explosion has left one person injured in Sivasagar town on Tuesday.The explosion took place at a house in Station Chariali at around 11 in the morning. Identified as Raju Ali, the injured has lost one of his hands under the impact of the explosion.The bomb was believed to have been brought to explode on the Republic day and was kept inside the house.Security forces rushed to the spot and sent the injured Ali to the Assam Medical College Hospital.
Despite widespread resentment in the rank and file of Congress, Sanjay Singh filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha poll slated for February 7.Singh submitted his nomination papers in presence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita along with several ministers and Congress leaders before returning officer Gauranga Prasad Das. Singh is the party’s first choice candidate.
