Nagaon DTO’s suspension draws flak

The suspension of Nagaon District Transport Officer ( DTO ) Rupak Pujai has drawn flak from the public as well as from the employees of Nagaon District Transport Office. The officer was suspended by the higher authority of the transport department on Saturday allegedly in connection with an old traffic related case in Kaziranga National Park during floods in 2014-2015.

According to a source in Nagaon district transport office, the case , registered in the National Green Tribunal ( NGT ) by environmentalist Rohit Choudhory upon which the transport officer was suspended ,was happened during the tenure of former DTO of Nagaon district and not during the days of present DTO Rupak Pujari.

“The present DTO was made scape goat in this case and his suspension by the higher authority has given rise to a lot of questions among the employees of district transport office as well as the conscious residents of the district,’’ the source said to this correspondent.

The source further stated that the present DTO, following the direction of the department authority, handed over all the required information and office files to the department to produce before the NGT. But the higher authority of the department concerned , instead of producing the documents before the NGT allegedly kept them in the office for months for which the Tribunal raised questions and asked whether the department had taken any action against the DTO concerned for failing to produce the said documents. Amid such developments , the higher authority of the transport department allegedly suspended the present DTO Rupak Pujari instead of a proper departmental enquiry into the entire issue, the sources added further.
