“Assamese language had to pay price for political blunder”:Sabha secretary

”The passing of Assamese Language Bill in Assam Legislative Assembly while late Bishnu Ram Medhi was the Chief Minister of Assam,without consulting a few great tribal leaders of Assam who used to speak in Assamese language in Assam Assembly had been one of the causes for which Assamese language lost the faith of non Assamese tribal leaders during sixty’s”,so said Dr.Paramananda Rajbongshi, secretary of Asom Xahitya Xobha at the concluding session of the silver jubilee celebration of Kendukalai Sahitya Samaj,a branch of Asom Xahitya Xobha at Kalaigaon on November 19.Dr.Rajbongshi in his speech as the chief guest of the open session also appealed all the people of Assam to adopt Assamese language as the languafranka in North East India.The open session was presided over by Abul Hussain,president of Kendukalai Sahitya Samaj,Kalaigaon.Jagadish Sarkar,EM,BTC;Gurujyoti Das,MLA,Mangaldai attended the concluding open session as the distinguished guests.A souvenir “Kendukalai” was aslo released on the occasion by Dr.Manju Devi Pegu, HOD, Assamese department, Cotton College,Guwahati.Several books were also released on the occasion written by Mahendra Saikia,Chandana Deka,Sashi Prabha Devi and Mahibul Hoque.The cultural evening was inaugurated by Bonjar Daimari,EM,BTC where several distinguished singers of Assam including Pulak Banerjee,Kanika Bhattacharjee,Sangita Borthakur,Rintimoni Deka,Malabika Bora, Pranjal Sarma,Prashanta Rajkhowa sang several songs to much delight of the people present.India famed classical dancer Bhanu Saharia Deka of Mangaldai and her troupe performed a few spectacular Xatria classical items on the occasion too.It needs mention that Bhanu Saharia Deka has been working hard on taking Xatria culture in the international level. Mukut Sarma and Dibyajyoti Barua, secretaries of the organising committee offered vote of thanks at the end.

I would prefer Hindi & English than Assamese language as a lingua franca in Assam.

Flood submerged several villages in Kalaigaon Revenue Circle

The over flooded Noa river has created havoc in Kalaigaon Revenue Circle area submerging more than 30 villages including Kalaigaon town. At least 20 thousand people have been effected. People of Kalaigaon have expressed satisfaction at the good performance of students in the HS examination conducted by AHSEC and CBSE although both the places have been hit hard by frequent bandhs. Ramendra Sutradhar: a tribute

A most popular figure of Udalguri,Ramendra Sutradhar is no more. His tragic end came in the morning of 27th May, Sunday. 4 die while installing motor at Dimakuchi

In a tragic accident four persons namely -Siddique Ali (23) of Kalaigaon; Bijoy Rajbongshi (35), Hari Rajbongshi (30) and Gauranga Mondol (43) of Dimakuchi under Dimakuchi police station died in a tragic mishap to day at around 3.30 PM. According to information,all of them died while installing a water motor in a well of Ninanha Khaklari (38) of Dimakuchi.All the four died due to lack of oxygen inside the well.It needs mention that all the three went into the well to rescue Siddique Ali, who had went down to a already dug well for collecting a remaining pipe of the motor.The incident has caused sorrow in the district.

30 thousand tree planted near India-Bhutan border

A massive tree plantation programme was arranged at Nonai in Khalingduar Reserve Forest near India-Bhutan border on June 5 on the occasion of World Environment Day. Killing of wild animals continues in Udalguri

Wildlife loving people of Udalguri district have expressed serious concern at the alarming growing rate of killing and injuring wild animals and birds in the district.As a result of unabated destruction of forest cover and encroachment on forest lands,particularly near Indo-Bhutan border,wild animals including elephants have started roaming human settlements once belonged to them.As per information received from villagers residing near Indo-Bhutan border,a wild deer had recently been killed by villagers of Section No.5 of Hattigarh tea garden. Tuskers retaliate firing in Khalingduar RF

More than hundred wild elephants attacked the Central Nursery of forest department at Switch Gate near Compartment No.4.inside Khalingduar Reserve Forest in Udalguri district last night causing extensive damage to the buildings and walls under construction. Interestingly,a few wild elephants had been roaming in the nursery the previous night on May 14.In order to chase them away forest personal resorted to firing causing minor injury to some of the herd.Being teased that way all the wild elephants numbering more than hundred attacked forest personal in retaliation forcing them to retreat to the range office.
