Udalguri school students vowed to protect wildlife
A group of one hundred students from twelve high schools of Udalguri district recently took a vow to protect nature and wildlife along with plantation of more trees in their respective villages within the district of Udalguri. The event took place at Kalaigaon Revenue Circle premises on November 12 at 1 pm on the occasion of the concluding ceremony of ‘Gnyan Jyoti Yatra’ sponsored by Assam government and supervised by Udalguri district administration.53 boys and 47 girls fron various high schools of the district assembled at Kalaigaon after a three days educational tour to Guwahati.During the period the students were given the opportunity to visit -IIT Guwahati,Srimanta Sankardeb Kalakhetra, Guwahati Museum,Guwahati Planetarium, Guwahati Zoo,War Memorial at Dighali Pukhuri,Guwahati High Court,Deepor Beel,Sarusajai Stadium etc.DN Hazarika, ADC,Udalguri while addressing the students at the concluding ceremony asked the students to start loving and protecting nature and wildlife and to respect fellow human beings.Wildlife activist J Das had an interactive session with the students.He highlighted the need for conservation of smaller animals and birds along with larger animals like wild elephants,rhinos and tigers etc.He spoke specially on the need to provide suitable atmosphere for insects, monitor lizards,honey bees,butterflies,snakes,frogs and various species of birds.All the students took a vow on the occasion that they would protect wildlife in their respective villages.They also promised to plant two tree saplings each in their respective houses and to nurse and love them as own brothers and sisters.Noted Assamese actor Ravi Sarma also spoke a few words on the occasion requesting students to be a good citizen each and always to come forward to help poor and needy.
