A close door meet of Sarbananda Sonowal and Rajnath Singh failed to find out a clear cut strategy to avoid the huge controversy over the move to amend the Citizenship Act.
The Assam Chief Minister who hunkered down with the Union home minister at the latter’s official in New Delhi in the evening discussed any options before them to get rid of the simmering protest.
Sonowal is learnt to have apprised Singh of the seismic waves of statewide protest. The difference of opinion among the state BJP leaders also figured in the meeting which took place for nearly two hours.
Since the controversy is directly linked to the ongoing process to update the NRC, the issue figured in the discussion.
Sonowal, who has arrived in the capital is learnt to have been unhappy with the controversy over the move to amend the citizenship Act where the Hindu refugees from the neighbouring countries would get the citizenship status.
