Bandh creates resentment

In order to put pressure to the central and state government for granting ST status to six ethnic communities including the Koch Rajbongshi community the AKRSU (Pradip Ray faction ) had called a 24 hour Assam bandh on October 18. Following them a 36-hours Assam bandh from October 19 to October 20 was, called by Six Janagostiya Aikhya Manch. The 60 hour bandh at a stretch had a hard hitting effect on the functioning of normal life in Udalguri district .

The places like Tangla, Khoirabari, Panery, Dimakuchi,Harisinga, Kalaigaon were the worse affected. The bandh supporters burnt tyres and damaged many vehicles during the bandh period. Even on third day of bandh i.e on Thursday bandh supporters burnt tyres on streets of Tangla and along with damaging a Tata magic commercial vehicle turned the vehicle upside down. A strong resentment has prevailed among the people of the town following the hooliganism of the bandh supporters.

In the 60 hour long bandh period the government offices in Bhergaon sub division though remained open attendance of the officials was very low . Though buisiness establishments were completely closed, schools and colleges remained unaffected.

The bandh had completely paralysed the buisiness hub of the district Tangla. Strong resentment has prevailed among the buisiness circles. However the worst affected are the daily wage earners and labour class people.
