The All Assam Students Union is all set to launch a statewide movement against the illegal migrants in the state. The student body leaders have urged the people to go for an economic blockade against these illegal migrants.
Addressing a press conference in the city on Saturday, the student body leaders informed that they have already finalized this movement at the recent executive body meeting. The student body announced a slew of agitation activities for detecting and deporting the illegal Bangladeshis. On August 6, they will stage state demonstration in front of the cit6y based passport office. This will be followed by the hunger strike from August 14 to 15 up to the time for hoisting the national tri-colour. On August 20, AASU will take out rallies throughout the state demanding constitutional safeguards to get rid of the Bangladeshi infiltration. On August 26, the students will be taking out procession with fire sticks in the evening.
General secretary Tapan Gogoi said,” We have already finalized a one month long agitation programme to ensure detection and deportation of the illegal Bangladeshis from the state.”
The AASU leaders have urged the people in general to be aware of the impending danger in the state’s demography. They have appealed to the people not to utilize the work of the Bangladeshi people who have intruded from across the border. They stressed an economic blockade against these workers for the sake of the indigenous people.
AASU president Sankar Prasad Roy said, “We do appeal to the people not to utilize the Bangladeshi workers.”

I have a friend studying in Australia. The daily wage of a worker is fixed at $5 by the government. If any migrant student or worker works for less than that (say, $4 or $3), the one who knows about such a deal reports to the police who takes away all the wage from the worker and imposes a huge fine on the employer. Thus they keep a check on illegal migrants working for lower wages compared to the one fixed by the Mayor of the town or city.

Atleast fifteen people have been feared dead at Sonapur when a bus fell into a river after the driver lost his control at the dead of the night on Saturday. Five people including three policemen have been left injured as the Black Widow militants by accident attacked them in between Langtin and Hatisali on Friday afternoon. According to information, the militants attacked the police vehicles while it was on the way to Maibong from Lumding at around 4-45 in the evening. The driver and a staff of the vehicle have also been left in the incident. Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh on Friday has warned that the country could land in big trouble if the government fails to check the stepped up activities of the Maoist rebels who have sneaked into Assam from Bhutan. Addressing a press conference on Friday, the BJP president said the Maoist rebels have been operating in the north eastern states. The jailed AASAA vice president Rafel Kujur has been granted bail by the Gauhati High Court. According to information, a single of justice Anima Hazarika granted him bail on Friday. Kujur was arrested by Dibrugarh police on January 28 charging him with taking Rs 20,000 in cash from ANLA extremists for holding the Beltola rally on November 24. Later, he was sent to judicial custody. He also deposed before the Manisana Commission from judicial custody while it was probing the Beltola violence that rocked the city on November 24.
Property worth one crore has been left ravaged while a 12 hour long devastating fire that broke out on Thursday midnight at a goodwon in Jorhat town. Eyewitness say the fire broke out at the ground floor of the a four storied godwon in the Chambers Road which later was spreading to the top floors. Fire tenders from Golaghat, Sivasagar, Dergaon, Roworia Bokakhat were pressed into service but the fire engulfed property worth corers of rupees. Jorhat Deputy Commissioner L S Changson and the administrative officials had sought help of ONGC fire fighters from Nazira. These tenders arrived and started operation and the fire was doused in the morning.
