Enchroachment causes man-elephant conflict
The cause of men-elephant on the Indo Bhutan area is enchroachment of forest land. This was observed by Rihan Daimary State Minister PHE, Food and Civil Supply at Panery Durga Mandir premises on Wednesday. More than 50 persons died in the attack of wild elephants on the Indo Bhutan area in Udalguri district during the period of 2014 2016 till date. Six persons were killed this year itself.
To pay the ex-gratia to the victims families the Dhansri Forest Division of Udalguri held a cheque distribution meeting at the Panery Durga Mandir today.Madhurjya Sarma the DFO presided in the meeting. Attending in the minister Rihan Daimary said that the main cause of man-elephant conflict is enchrochment of forest land.Such enchrochment destroyed the forest land and deforestation occurred .He said that the department must take necessary action to evade the the forest land.He requested the department to arrange awareness programme in context of forestation as to provide fodder to wild jumbos and thereby minimize the casualities.More than 30 victim families were given cheques of one lakh each as ex-gratia compensation and 15 to 20 thousands cheques were distributed among the injured persons. The persons whose Crops were damaged and houses vandalized will be paid compesation soon. DFO Sarma said that more 400 hector bighas land is enchroched in Bornodi Wildlife Sanctuary and 1660 bighas land is enchroched in Khalingduwar reserve forest.Many nature loving persons were ptesent in the meeting.

TANGLA: The teachers and students of Tangla College bad farewell to teacher Jayanta Kr. Chakravarty on his retirement on Wednesday. UDALGURI: The Udalguri district committee of All Koch-Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) is preparing to enforce a 24 hour long Udalguri district bandh on February 15 alleging failure of BTAD administration to keep its promises. Talking to reporters, Aranya Deka, A Saikia and B. Rajbongshi, alleged that despite full support to the ruling BPF in the last BTC elections, the BTC authority did not fulfill its assurance to construct a students’ hostel for the community at Udalguri and intentionally directed to construct it outside Udalguri town area.The decision was taken at a district unit meeting of AKRSU, where the leaders criticized the present role of the BTC authority in the region.
TANGLA: Don Basumatary and Pankaraj Deuri emerged champion in mens double category in the 5th edition of the Prize Money Open Badminton Tournament which at Tangla Badminton Association Indoor stadium on Sunday night. UDALGURI: The Sikh community of Udalguri and Darrang celebrated the 350th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh with religious fervour at Tangla in Udalguri on Friday. They celebrated the occasion at the Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha. Sikh devotees, including women and children, from different parts of the district gathered at the Gurudwara since morning and offered their prayers.Devotees read out the scriptures of Sukhmani Sahib and recited kirtan, which spread the messages of love and harmony among the people. UDALGURI: The Gorkha students in BTAD areas are not at all happy with BTC. The council has been running without anybody to represent them. This was what the All Assam Gorkha Students' Union has written to Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi who has assured them of steps to address the concern. In the memorandum to Mukhi, the student organization deplored that even after three years BTC has not nominated even a single Gorkha person to represent them against the provision of six persosn. TANGLA: Noted Bodo writer Dr.Rita Baro has fetched no less pride to the people of Assam when she was declared the recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award in Bodo language. Dr Baro has been named for Sahitya Akademi award for her short-novel, 'Thwisam'. The novel deals with the story of a spoiled martyr's son who leaves home after cheating his mother of the ex-gratia compensation amount received from the government for his father's death.
