New MHRC Chairperson

Dr Justice Aftab Hussain Saikia, Chairperson of Assam Human rights Commission has been appointed as the first Chairperson of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission by the Governor of Meghalaya, V Shanmuganathan.

Dr. Justice Saikia has formally taken over charge of the office of the Chairperson, Meghalaya Human Rights Commission wef 15 July, 2016. Dr. Justice Saikia, who was formerly Chief Justice of the High Courts of Sikkim and Jammu & Kashmir is presently the Chairperson of the Assam Human Rights Commission. The tenure of Dr Justice Saikia as the Chairperson of the Assam Human Rights Commission will expire on 30th November, 2016. Till then he will be the Chairperson simultaneously in the two Commissions.

The Government of Meghalaya has named Shri PJP Hanaman as the non-judicial member. Shri Hanaman who is formerly Director General of Police, Meghalaya joined wef 20 July,2016
