Gorkhas demand ST status

Hundreds of Gorkha peoples from four districts of BTAD region throng to participate in a three-hour sit-in-demonstration agitation programme on Monday at DRDA parking ground near DC office demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, recognition of Original Inhabitant (OI) status in NRC, nominate members from Gorka community in BTC council.

Agitators with banner,placards,fetoone participated the demonstration and shouted slogans demanding early granting ST status,OI status in NRC update, which was organized by Assam Gorka Sammelan, BTAD regional committee. The agitators voice sky wave with shoutings-‘No ST No Rest’, Gorkhas should be regarded as OI citizens in Assam nominate a member from Gorkha community in BTC council. The Sammelan submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister through Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar seeking early ST status to Gorkha community in Assam. The Sammelan warn to take vigorous mass agitation if their demands are not meet as early in coming days.

Laksmhi Sedai,president of the Sammelan told that the Grokahs are indigenous peoples of the state with own culture, identity and language because Gorkhas have been dwelling peacefully in Assam since time of immemorial as defense personnel, a few government officials and academicians, cattle breeders etc in all spheres of Assam. He has demanded the Gorkhas should get early ST status to meet healthy development I the state. He expressed serious concern over tactically non granting OI status to Gorkha community in NRC update in Assam, besides keeping community on confusion with marking non-original inhabitants.

He has put demand of OI status for Gorkha community while filling NRC update. He has also demanded a member should be nominated from Gorkha community in BTC council to represent community with development aspects.

“We started our agitation from Kokrajhar to the cause of ST status, OI in NRC update, nomination of a member from Gorkha in BTC council. We put demands to the higher authority and government to meet early fulfillment,other wise mass agitation will be initiated in days to coming. Government deprived Gorkha community from all fronts of development as well ST status since long years back. The government should take stern measure to fulfill community’s issues and aspects”,Sedai said.

It is my pride, to read the above article which is appreciated. Gorkhas are the key element for peace and prosperity of the soil. Even though, they are still struggling for their identification and their own home land. Each Gorkha has to be motivated, through a spirit of friendship and mutual understanding among themselves and communities around. In addition, walk together and work together to reach to great destination with a fruitful result. I would say, peace does whatever we want. So much thanks to my dear brothers and sisters.

Mohmedan lifts Bodoland Martyrs gold cup

Kokrajhar: Mohmedan Sporting Club, Kolkata defeated Oil Sports Club, Duliajan 4-3 via penalty kick to lift the trophy in the final match of the19th edition of the Bodoland Martyrs Gold Cup football championship-2018 held at KDSA stadium on Sunday evening. Both team were goalless in the full time of the championship.  The winning team was awarded cash Rs. One lakh and a trophy. Assam Tchokball team felicitated in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: State players of the Assam Tchokball team was accorded warm welcome and felicitated at Kokrajhar rail station on Thursday here in Kokrajhar who were participated in the 9th national sub-junior and junior girl’s championship 2018-19 recently concluded in Navi Mumbai of Maharastra. Dr Pramad Chandra Bhattacharya passes away

Eminent linguist, folklorist and scholar of Assam Dr Pramod Chandra Bhattacharya breathed his last on Monday. He was 93. Dr Bhattacharya had contributes a lot toward uplift and development of the Bodo language. He had done his Ph D on Bodo language and culture. Bodoland martyrs gold cup begins

Kokrajhar: The 19th edition of the Bodoland Martyrs Gold Cup football trophy -2018  has began from Sunday at KDSA ground in Kokrajhar.  Minister for Social welfare department Pramila Rani Brahma graced the event as chief guest.  In the inaugural match, Guwahati City Police took on Bongaigaon Eleven Star sports club.  Altogether 13 teams across the country are  participating the football trophy. Community fishing creates in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: Citizens in large numbers are seen busy fishing in the Longa River near Ramfalbill, Kokrajhar district since eraly morning on Thursday.  The Longa Irrigation Sluice gate has released the river water every year on November 1. Hence people from different places of the lower Assam are coming here for fishing. Today, the river water was relesaed at 5 am in the morning. The river site was like festivity as all sections of people gathered to fish in the river with fishing materials.  

Dead body recovered

Kokrajhar: A dead body was recovered at Boro Gendrabill on Sunday evening. The body of a young woman aged around 18 year which was found in a mysterious condition. The body was tied on her legs when her body found, said eye witnesses. Burnt marks were also seen in the body. Local public suspect that she was raped and later murdered.  According to family members, she was supposed to get married. Police rushed the spot to take stock about incident. The body was sent Kokrajhar for PM.

Noted academician Karendra Nath Brahma passes away

Kokrajhar: Noted academician, former principal of Debargaon HS School, Policy Making Body (PMB) member of Bodoand People’s Front( BPF) party Karendra Nath Brahma passed away on Wednesday at a private hospital in Guwahati after prolong illness. Brahma was admitted at the hospital in Guwahati on critical condition on September  26 following critical illness and continue to remain in ICU till his death.  He was first taken to a private nursing home at Kokrajhar town on September 24, but referred to Guwahati after he was detected urinary problem and kidney trouble. Brahma, breathed his last on Wednesday at around 12.30 pm at Apollo Hospital in Guwahati due to prolong health...

Kokrajhar district committee of Assam Tchoukball association felicitated the players who were part of recently concluded inter district Tchoukball championship held at Bodosa Nwgwr ground in Chirang district. Kokrajhar district team won the senior women’s category. The boys team was adjusted second runners up in the sub-junior and junior respectively in the championship. Kokrajhar district players have presented attractive sporting talents in the championship. The players was felicitated at a programme held at Tchoukball association office,Haltugaon Tinali in Kokrajhar on Saturday with Lakhiram Brahma, president of the Kokrajhar district unit of the association in the chair.
