In a move that fetches joy for Assam and its people, a top ranked ONGC officer from Assam will head the Oil India Limited.
He is none other than Utpal Borah who is all set to sit in the helm of affairs of the oil public sector unit.
Borah, now Executive Director (Asset Manager) ONGC, who has been finalized for the post of OIL chairman cum managing director is expected to join within this month.
OIL has been running functioning without a full-time CMD since July 1 last year.
Public sector top management personnel recruiter Public Enterprises Selection Board last year conducted two interviews to select its head where Rupshikha Saikia Borah was selected. But the Prime Minister’s Office rejected the selection. The MoPNG search committee shortlisted 15 candidates for the interview. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is skipping the north east chief ministers conference in New Delhi on Wednesday.Gogoi who is in the national capital will shy away from the meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with four other Congress chief ministers.Sources told Assam Times that Gogoi is scheduled to leave New Delhi for Guwahati on Wednesday morning.
The Supreme Court ordered 64 additional foreigners tribunals by August 10 to detect and deport the immigrants. A Division Bench of the apex court comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Rohington F Nariman on Tuesday directed the Gauhati High Court to set up 64 additional tribunals apart from 36 tribunals are functioning.These tribunals would start functioning by August 10, the court directed.The court further asked the government to settle the pending cases within a time-frame.

Runners from home and outside are arriving in Shillong to participate in the Cherrapunjee Marathon slated for Friday.Organizers told Assam Times that more than more than 300 outside runners have so far arrived in Shillong to join the event in the morning.These are apart from around 500 others belonging to the home state. A businessman and his daughter died and two others sustained injury when suspected ULFA men sprang upon a family in Tinsukia district on Tuesday.The incident took place at around 7.30 in the evening in Bojulibon area near Pengeri.Local residents told Assam Times that three gunmen came to the residence of businessman Nandalal Shah. At least 25 people has a providential escape when the chopper carrying them noselanded on a highway in Sonitpur district on Tuesday.The incident took place at Tetubari near Gohpur area in the morning. The Pawan Hans chopper was on its way to Guwahati from Itanagar.Suddenly, the pilot found it difficult to remain on the air because of an inclement weather. Since there was no helipad nearby.Then the chopper had an emergency landing on the road much to the major relief for 25 people who were travelling to Guwahati.
