Gogoi to contest 2016 polls

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi makes it plan and simple on Tuesday that he would contest the next assembly polls early next year.  

Talking to reporters after attending a meeting with Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Tuesday, Gogoi said, “I would contest this time also.”

He said the party has yet to discuss the poll ticket and that they have time to take up these.

7 killed in Karimganj landslide

At least seven people of two families were killed at an incident of landslide in Karimganj district on Saturday.

The incident took place Sutarganj area in the district in the wee hours when a huge chunk of land collapsed on their houses.

No one could come to their rescue because of the incessant rain and storm that lashed the district for nearly 2 hours.  

Their bodies were dug out by local residents and police in the morning only.

Opposition parties taking out procession in the city

As many as 12 Opposition parties are taking out a procession in the city to the Rajbhawan demanding the immediate dismissal of the Tarun Gogoi Government and also in protest against the hike in fuel prices linking it with UPA government’s failure. The people in the procession are set to call on Assam Governor and submit before him a memorandum alleging some tainted ministers in the Gogoi cabinet.

Assam bandh partial in BTAD

Normal life remained partially disrupted under the impact of the 12 hours Assam bandh called by BTAD Bengali Youth Students Federation and Assam Bengali Youth Students Federation on Wednesday alleging harassment to Hindu Bengalies in the name of steps to update NRC.
The bandh started from  5 in the morning where roads remained bare in some places in BTAD. Shops and markets and schools and colleges, banks and offices remained closed.
The students federation alleged that the government has been creating unleashing disturbances among the Hindu Bengalies in the name of updating the NRC.
