Funeral of Manik Brahma performed at Dotma

Funeral of Manik Kumar Brahma, noted educationist, vice principal of Dotma HS School and social activist, has been done at Gurudev Kalicharan Academy complex at Dotma in the presence of huge public gathering, students on Friday in Kokrajhar. Manik Kumar Brahma, noted writer, educationist suddenly passed away on Thursday, which brought sad news among citizens in the region at a private nursing home in Siliguri in West Bengal due to cardiac arrest.

Brahma was ACS passed in the state, but left government service after few days and then he joined as Science Teacher in Dotma HS School and dedicated his life towards uplift of educational environment in the region. He was also principal of Gurdev Kalicharan Academy, a private manage Bodo medium school, was founded in 1994 and since then he has been dedicated with his whole heart.

He was born on March 1, 1958 at Maoriagaon village under Dotma PS. He was 58.He has left four sons behind his wife.

He was associated with several organizations like Boro Somaj, Brahma Dharma, Bodo sahity sabha, social organizations in the region. He was also one of expert person among constitution drafting committee of Boro Somaj. His funeral was performed along carried out a procession from his native Maorigaon village to Gurudev Kalicharan Academy complex after performing all rituals at his own home.

Irrespective of caste,creed and communities expressed deep sorrow over his sudden expired and paid rich floral tribute. Various organizations including Bodo Sahitya Sabha,ABSU,Boro Somaj,Tribal Sangha, well wishers paid last respect him at Maoriagaon village and Gurudev Kalicharan Academy repectively.

Former Rajya Sabha MP and UPP president Urkhao Gwra Brahma,Rajendra Nath Brahma,secretary Bodo sahitya sabha,Dhwajendra Nath Brahma were among others prominent attendees on the funeral occasion.

Durga Mahan Basumtary, family member of Manik said that he was a man of good dedicated while discharging his responsibility with efficient working capability. His death was a great lost for Bodo society as well entire down trodden communities of the state, he said.

‘We have lost a great gentleman who always dreamt to bring perfect community through bringing peace and harmony in the state’, Durga Mahan added.

Chakradhar Brahma,principal of Dotma HS School expressing deep sorrow said, ‘His death has brought losing of dedicated academician in the region’.

Manik Kumar Brahma, was involve d with different organizations like Boro Somaj,Brahma Dharma,Bodo sahitya sabha in his life.

‘We have lost a social worker and educationist, who had tried to publish Bodo social customary law in the state’, a literary activist said recalling his contributions towards building quality education and harmony in the region.

Apurna Narzary, an international women's football player, has been nominated for the Emerging Player award for 2022-23 by the Sports & Youth Welfare department of the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Narzary has represented India in several international events and is the daughter of Biswajit Narzary of Khagrabari village in Kokrajhar district.
