Defying an inclement weather the Muslim in Assam celebrated Eid amid much pomp and gaiety along with their counterparts across the globe on Thursday.

Incessant rains heavily disrupted the community namaz in many parts of the state in the morning. But never have they allowed the festivity to be damped.

Amid festivity they visited their near and dear ones serving sweets and gifts in the state. Assam Governor, Chief Minister, AGP, Congress and BJP along with many other organizations have wished the people on the occasion.

Nazira correspondent adds: Eid is being celebrated with traditional fervor in Nazira on Thursday. Idgahs and masjids started teeming with people in the morning for community namaz. Nazira MLA Debobrate Saikia some mosques offered his Idd greetings to the Muslim people.

GUWAHATI:A special CBI court in Guwahati on Monday is taking up the serial explosion case in the city along with Kokrajhar and Barpeta in 2009 where around 100 people lost their lives. Special court judge P Chakrabarty is set to decide on the fates of altogether 23 rebels who were accused by CBI as the country's premier investigation agency was probing the deadly incident. GUWAHATI: All of a sudden, the river Brahmaputra has started flowing with dirty water much the major concern of the millions of people in Assam to have spotted the disaster in their lifeline. Vice president M Venkaiah Naidu is on a two days visit to the north eastern city of Guwahati. During his maiden visit as vice president on Sunday he is attending a programme in Sarusajai based Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium. This would be followed by another programme at Sankardev Kalakhetra. GUWAHATI: The United Liberation Front of Asom (I) has deeply condoled the loss of Rajen Deka who was killed at an encounter with security forces in Udalguri on Friday wee hours. In a statement issued here, the rebel outfit heaped huge praise on him for his sacrifice saying that he died fighting with the security forces thinking not even an iota of his life.
