Bhadreswar Dihingia, A farmer collects "Bhut Jolokia" or "Naga Chili" peppers in his field at Bakata in Sivasagar district of Assam on 17-07-2008. Bhut jolokia, a thumb-sized chili pepper with frightening potency, rated the hottest chili in the world by Guinness World Records. It is widely eaten as a spice, a cure for stomach troubles and, seemingly paradoxically, a way to fight the crippling summer heat too.

The Electronic Media Forum Assam has announced three yearly awards to encourage the journalists, associated with the news channels, for their continued endeavour to reveal the truth through visual journalism. A local TADA court is all set to give its final judgment on ULFA chief Arabinda Rajkhowa's bail petition today. The court is expected to clear the bail to Rajkhowa in view of the government's written submission that it will not oppose the bail plea. On December 16, the Assma government counsel Pradeep Gogoi informed the court that the government would not oppose it in the light of its earlier decision to facilitate the release of the ULFA chief to ensure the much-awaited talks at an earlier date. The ULFA chief has 6 cases pending before the TADA court.
