Timber laden truck mishap
Just few days post declaration for withdrawing some forest check gates across the state by Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma, forest department seized illegally carrying timber logs following a truck met road mishap late Sunday night along 31C National Highway at Barsangaon near Karigaon in Kokrajhar district.
A truck bearing registration No. AS-18C-4636 carrying illegal Sal timbers coming from Athiabari bound for Bongaigaon through 31C National Highway was met road mishap at Barsangaon late last night, however driver and smugglers manage to escape from the spot through scope of dark. The truck was seen damaged fully and timbers slept to the road for the incident. Forest official and police rushed to the spot to take stock about incident and later seized the timbers. Police said that it was an act from illegally smugglers who were tried to smug the timbers. The timbers’ market value would be around Rs.3.5 to 4 lakhs
Assam Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma and BTC deputy chief, who is also in-charge for Forest department Kampa Borgoyary visited the spot. The forest minister said stern action will be taken against illegal timber smuggling. She sought details report about the illegal timber smuggling. Borgoyary also said action will be taken against illegal functioning of timber smuggling and forest wealth.
Dhiren Basumatary, Forest Ranger said that the forest department has been intensified patrolling through National Highway that is why the smugglers met road mishap on the road. The truck was bound for Bongaigaon.

Apurna Narzary, an international women's football player, has been nominated for the Emerging Player award for 2022-23 by the Sports & Youth Welfare department of the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Narzary has represented India in several international events and is the daughter of Biswajit Narzary of Khagrabari village in Kokrajhar district. The award will be presented to her during the Baokhungri festival celebration at Baokhungri Hill site near Harinaguri in Kokrajhar.
