Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma remembered

The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT) recalled contributions of Bodofa (Father of Bodos) Upendra Nath Brahma, a great leader of Bodo as well other downtrodden communities of the state of Assam and former president of the students’ union towards uplift of Bodos, on his 60th birth anniversary at Tulunggapuri, Dotma in Kokrajhar district on Thursday.

Bodofa Brahma,was a Master Degree with Science from a poor family, born at remote Boragari village in Kokrajhar district on March 31,1956, hold the responsibility of dedictaion to the Bodo and other down trodden communities through launching of democratic mass agitation demanding separate Bodoland state carving existing Assam, bringing total revolution in the society,besides creating peace and unity among all sections of community in the region.

 UN Brahma,who had been dream of creation of separate Bodoland state, mission of  Bodo master-race and upliftment of Bodo and other down trodden communities in the country. Bodofa Brahma have had president of the ABSU in 1986 and led democratic mass movement seeking separate Bodoland state till his death in 1990. Brahma, had dream of master race of Bodos and literate Bodo community in the world through which he had dedicated his whole life towards social uplifting. 

Student union activists, irrespective of citizens from different community organistaions,leaders thronged the anniversary observation to paid floral tribute to Bodofa UN Brahma at Thulunggapuri, apart from Promod Boro,ABSU president, Sameswar Brahma, elder brother of Bodofa UN Brahma,former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma,ex-Lok Sabha MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary.

 Promod Boro,ABSU president hoisted the union flag followed one minute silence condolence to mark the observation and an open discussion was also organised on the day.

 Promod Boro,ABSU president said, ‘The ABSU and UNBT have been observing the birth anniversary of Bodofa UN Brahma every year on today’s day. We recalled him with great respect,who had worked not only for the Bodos but for the down trodden people of the region’.

‘Bodofa Brahma led strong mass movement for separate Bodoland state within Indian constitution,who had dreamt of Master Race of Bodos in the world,besides bringing total revolution of change among society’,he said.

The students union has been stepping to bring mission with master race, mission non-violence,mission total revolution,mission Bodoland, mission quality education.

 On the building of great Bodo society Boro said,‘We want Bodos to be advance society in the world’. He has urged the government to create early small states across the country including Bodoland separate to meet good and healthy administration.The students union also declared birth place of Brahma as model village,which launching master-plan of the model village on May 1 next.”

Former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma said, ‘Bodofa UN Brahma, who had established the Bodo, a great community the world. Dedication of Bodofa Brahma was rare for the community.We must respect ideology and philosophy of Brahma’.

Bodofa Brahma had dream master race of Bodos,besides demanded separate Bodoland state. He was a leader of Bodos and other down trodden communities for the caused of Bodoland,Brahma said adding that we must try to keep alive the thoughts and philosophy of UN Brahma to the nation as well as to the world.

‘The thoughts and philosophy of the then student leader Upendra Nath Brahma has brought a revolution among the down trodden people for their rights to live with dignity and self determination. Bodofa Brahma regarded as torch bearer of the Bodo peoples towards seeking separate Bodoland state and social change’,Brahma said.

A mass Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organized by the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and its movement group like the NDFB(P), PJACBM at Kokrajhar Girl’s Higher Secondary school Nearly two-hundred volunteers donated blood to the Kokrajhar blood bank on Sunday. The initiative is being guided by Voluntary Blood Donor’s Association,Jharkhand and The Ant, a Chirang based NGO  with the help of local Blood Banks. Police apprehended four persons for involved with assaults an elderly woman on suspect of witch-hunting at Garopara village under Kazigaon PS in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday which has created sensaton in the area. According to police, an elderly woman identified as Basanti Marak(50), wife of  Seckson Marak was dragged out by villagers on suspect of witch hunting on Tuesday noon and physically assaulted. 5th Baukhungri festival was concluded with three-day colourful programme scheduled at Harinaguri, 10 km east of Kokrajhar town along the Baukhungri Hill in Kokrajhar district on April 14 last. Sea of people, young and old, men and women, irrespective of caste, creed and community, headed the 'Baukhungri Hill’ to scale the Hill on the Sankranti, a day before Bwisagu or Bihu. A total 12 grenades were recovered at a house at Hartal village along Indo-Bhutan border area in Baksa district on Tuesday during joint operation carried out by security forces.  According to security source, a joint team of security forces from police, army, CRPF launched a search operation at Hartal village in Baksa district and managed to recover 12 pieces of grenades at a house along the village which were kept inside the house. The owner of the house was arrested and was identified as Swmkhwr Basumatary. Investigation is on, said a senior police officer.
