Republic Day celebrated in Chirang

Chirang district joined the rest of the country in celebrating the 67th Republic Day on Tuesday. It was celebrated in a befitting manner at Kajalgaon parade ground.

BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyary,attending the celebration as chief guest paid floral tribute at the Srimiti Tarpon and unfurled the national tri- colour national Flag. He inspected the guard of honour and took salute from the march-pass contingens.

In his speech,Borgoyary highlighted the developmental activities being done by the BTC authority since last ten years. He well comed the asurance given by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Kokrajhar about the upgration of Kokrajhar CIT to Deemed University within a year, according of ST  status to the Bodos living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao Autonomous Councils and development of Rupsi Airport for use of defense and public.

 In the programme, students from different schools and cultural groups of the locality  showcased colourful cultural programme. Students from the Bengtal Don Bosco School and the 7-Sikh Li Regiment  displayed band and arms and ammunitions which attracted the garhering lot.

 As such, students of Gossaigaon JNV got the first prizes in both parade and cultural programme. On the occasion, financial assistance amounting of Rs. 15,000 were also given to the Women SHGs under NRLM by the Chirang DRDA

BTC Secretary Carol Narzary, ex- MLA Matindra Basumatary, BTC ex-speaker  Paniram Brahma, ex- EM James Basumatary, Chirang DC Rupak Kumar Mazumdar, SP Ranjan Kumar Bhuyan, all heads staff of the departments were present on the occasion.

Journalist Dhananjoy Nath, staff reporter of Dainik Janasadaran and Secretary of Kokrajhar Press Club  was attacked by the unidentified miscreant on Thursday evening around 7.15 pm. when he was on his way from Kokrajhar Tiniali to Bhutiyapara, his home. Nath said that two motorcycles borne miscreants tried  to kidnap him showing a pistol. Three orphaned Asiatic black bears cubs (Ursus thibetanus) were moved into the wild in Manas National Park on Thursday in Baksa district. The cubs were found alone in Mayanpara, Siyalmara and Kumarikhata villages in the fringes of the UNESCO World Heritage in December last year. A 101-year-old woman died in Kokrajhar leaving behind a pall of gloom in the entire district on Tuesday.She was none other than Saoni Basumatary, popularly known as Durmao who breathed her last in the morning at her own residence in Kanthalguri village in the district.Her family members told Assam Times that the end came at 8-30 in the morning because of her brief ailment.Beside being a village headwoman and she was associated with a number of social activities.
