Rail blockade for ST, Kamatapur

The All Koch Rajbongsi Students Union(AKRSU) and Koch Rajbongsi Mahila Samiti blockade the railway today at Duramari, east of Basugaon station in Chirang district demanding early granting of  Scheduled Tribe(ST) status and reconstruction of Kamatapur state.

Over 500 activists of AKRSU and samiti sat on the track with banner,placards to blockade for five hours beginning from 8.30 AM and shouted slogans demanding early solutions to the demands from the community.

The down Rajdhani Express bound for New Delhi was halted for around 15 minutes at Duramari bridge following blockade. Deployed security personnel first fired tear-gas to disperse the thronged peoples on the track and later force too to lathicharge to the agitators. The tracks were free from agitators and trains were resumed on deployment of strong security personnel along the tracks.

Hiteswar Barman,president of the AKRSU has slammed the government for not taking any initiative to the demands made from Koch Rajbongsi community.He said that demands of ST status and reconstruction of Kamatapur state are genuine and justice demands under Indian constitution.He said that govt should take bold step to grant justice and rights to the community.

Barman has also warned for vigorous movement if their demand and issues are not meet in earliest manner in days to coming.

Rupeswari Roy,secretary of Koch Rajbongsi Mahila Samiti strongly condemned the lathicharge on agitators by security personnel on the blockade said, ‘It was a conspiracy from government to stop agitation, of which why they forcefully protested their blockade.The protest on agitators by securities was unfortunate and injustice for the democratic agitation groups’.
