The 1st International Invitational Karate-Do Championship 2008 is scheduled to be held at Bhogeshwar Phukannini Indoor Stadium, Guwahati from 28th to 29th June 2008 organised jointly by All Assam Shito-Ryo Karate Do Association and Arkawa-Stanley Wado-Ryu(KAI) Karate-Do Association Assam in loving memory of Late Biswajit Das, Memboob Rahman and Partha Pratim Medhi. Four Asian country namely Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and SriLanka have consented to participate in the said competition. Nepal Army , Assam Rifles,Naga Regiment and SimaSurksha Bal ina separate entity will participate in the Championship recognized by World Karate Do-Federation and Internatiuonal Olympic Association.
Players will be accommodated in various hotels of the city apart from Shilpagram and Kalashetra. A free health will be organized for the players on 27th June by Ranjit Deka and Co. All medical needs through out the tournament will be circulated by them. Referees of International repute and recognized by World Karate Do-Federation will officiate the tournament. '
'Around 300 participants are expected to take the ring in the two day mega event where the Indian contingent consists of 120 players and notably 40 players from Assam will represent the tri-colour'. Sensei Champak Deka said this in a press conference held at Bhogeshwar Phukannini Indoor Stadium, Guwahati today. His Excellency Governor of Assam will inaugurate the championship on 28th June at 11am and Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend the closing ceremony.
