The erosion is still taking a serious turn at Bhuragaon and Mayong revenue circle in Morigaon district. Brahmaputra's erosion causing extensive damages to crop fields and human habitations in that region in the last fortnight. One revenue village namely Pabhokati was completely submerged in Brahmaputra while three others namely Dighali, Molohu, and Baralimari were partially eroded. More than 120 families have been rendered homeless while 500 hectares of sugarcane and jute plantations were devastated. One child was drowned at Gorubandha village under Mayong revenue circle on Tuesday.
The Minister for Revenue and Higher Education Dr Bhumidhar Barman, along with Dr Nazul Islam, Food and Civil Supplies Minister visited the erosion hit villages along the bank of the Brahmaputra on June 24. But according to the affected people as told this correospondent that their visit was just a formality and they believe it would never bring any hope for them, but will open a door to snatch money for the Govt. officials.
The Revenue Minister met the DC of Morigaon as well as top officials of Agriculture, Water Resources and Public Works Department and discussed the rehabilitation measures for the affected people.The Minister said to the media later that a scheme of Rs.14 crore has been submitted to the Central Government for rehabilitation of flood and erosion victims of Assam.
