I will continue my writing: Brajendra Kumar Brahma

Noted poet,writer and former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), Brajendra Kumar Brahma says that he would continue writing in the field of literary towards building of healthy Bodo literature in his whole life.

Brahma, a soft spoken expressing his happiness after winning of the Sahitya Academy award for his poetry book ‘Baidi Dengkhw Baidi Gab’ this year in Bodo section told that the award recognized him from nation level has encouraged him to write more in his life.

‘I would continue my writings till my death as because poem writing is the my ‘first love’ and creations in the field of Bodo litetary will be the last respiration till death’, said Brahma.  

The poem book,which brought academy  award for Brahma, was published by Bodo Sahitya Sabha in 2012 during the sabha session held at Chekamari of West Bengal.

 Brajendra,who was former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), had earlier bagged the Tagore Literary Award, 2009, of the Sahitya Akademi for his book Raithai Mala, a collection of poems, which was published in 2006.

A winner of three awards till date, Brahma was born on June 1, 1943 at Chalani Batabari village in Kokrajhar district. He passed his matriculation in 1959 from Sakti Ashram Vocational High School, BA in 1968 from St Edmund’s College, Shillong and BT in 1977 from Goalpara Government BT College.Brahma,took retired as Headmaster from Banargaon High School in 2000 and associated with various literary works and social activities.

He has been associated with the Bodo Sahitya Sabha since long, besides served as its joint secretary during 1986-89 and 1990-92. During 1986-88, he was the vice-president of the Bodo Writers’ Academy, then an adviser of the same, and subsequently the president of the BSS during 2002-04 and 2005-07 for terms. He was also the chief editor of Gwdan Giyan, a monthly GK in Bodo, and the chief editor of Somni Agan, a monthly magazine of Bodo poetry.

Forest department and security personnel  apprehend three timber smugglers and recovered Sal timbers on Tuesday morning in a joint operation conducted inside Jharbari and Ultapani range under Haltugaon forest division in Kokrajhar.  Acting on a tiptop information about timber smugglers, forest department, security personnel from Assam Police, SSB, CRPF, Black Commando and Army conducted a joint operation since late last night and managed to arrest three timber smugglers, besides recovery of  over 50 pieces of Sal logs from the Haltugaon reserve forest. They were identified as Khwnasad Basumatary, Annai Brahma and Dilip Basumatary.
The All BTC Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU) burnt down the effigy of Governor PB Acharya condemning his recent speech of ‘Hindustan only for Hindu people’ on Tuesday at Bhotgaon in Kokrajhar. The second general convention of the All Assam HS Teachers & Employees Association, BTAD Cell was concluded here at Kokrajhar Girls' HS school with daylong programme scheduled in Kokrajhar on Monday.  As part of the programme scheduled, Santola Basumatary, president of the association hoisted organization flag flag, Kanan Basumatary, president of the reception committee paid homage to martyrs on the occasion.  A new executive committee of the association was formed with Santola Basumatary as chairman and Davidson Daimary as convenor along with 13 executive members through the delegate session.  At least six resolutions were adopted in the session through the discussion...
Journalist fraternity and common publics remembered late Jagajit Saikia,Kokrajhar correspondent of Amar Asom on his 7th death anniversary at Press Club, Kokrajhar. Hantigiri Narzary, vice president of the club paid rich floral tribute to Saikia, followed by members and common publics.  Saikia was shot death by unknown armed miscreants on November 22, 2008 at the heart of Kokrajhar. Saikia was a promising journalist in the Lower Assam region, who had represented Amar Asom, an Assamese daily newspaper from Kokrajhar, heart of BTAD administration. 
The United Peoples Party (UPP) has formed a four member cell of Right to Information (RTI) of the party to see development activities in the region.  The cell was constituted with Satya Basumatary of Kokrajhar as secretary,Rajen Boro of Udalguri, Sarat Wary of Chirang and Sachin Basumatary of Baksa were selected as members, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, president of the party stated in a release. 
Kokkrajhar police in a major breakthrough arrested seven persons involved with name plate dismantling of Bodoland martyrs cemetery ground, Debargaon from Joypur area in Kokrajhar district on Saturday. The arrested were produced in the court and six of them sent to jail, besides Hajarat Ali, who was identified as main involved, has been  kept for police remand.  Persons who were sent to jail have been identified as Moinul Haque of Nayasar, Hassan Ali of Jaruasar of Dhubri, Hamen Ali, Mazar Ali of Kokrajhar, Hadial Bhyapari of Bongaigaon and Joynal Ali of Kokrajhar.  
 A peace meeting was organised by the Chirang district administration at Nangdorbari in Chirang district among the villagers of Nangdorbari, Mohanpur and neighboring areas over the prevailing situation in the area on Saturday. The All Assam Govt Driver & Handiman Association has decided to hold it's 13th biennial conference with three-days-long programne scheduled from December 11 here at Science College auditorium in Kokrajhar.  Kiran Buragohain, president and Lamar ultimately Islam Borbhuyan, general secretary of the association told the newsmen on Friday that the association has been organizing the conference with long programme scheduled where over  500 delegates from various states of the country are participating.
