Kamatapur bandh affects normal life in Kokrajhar

Normal life in Kokrajhar, heart town of BTAD administration was paralyzed today following 24-hours Kamatapur bandh called by Koch Rajbongsi United Forum demanding granting of Scheduled Tribes (ST) status, creation of separate Kamatapur state

All kinds of road transport communication, business institutions like bank, bazaar, market, shop were remained closed during the bandh which was started from 5AM today. 

Main road in Kokrajhar along with 31C national Highway was look deserted following the bandh. Most of the govt offices saw a thin attendance. However, some of private vehicle are saw plying in the riads and emergency services like medical, water supply were exempted from the purview of bandh

The united forum called the bandh demanding early creation of separate Kamatapur state which comprises of Lower Asssam districts and some districts of West Bengal state, granting of ST status to the Koch Rajbongsi community and recognisation of Koch Rajbongsi language as official language in the state

A student of Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar identified as Jangila Basumatary, 25, died and a rider received injury early this morning at a road mishap in Kokrajhar town. Jangila was last year student of B Tech in CIT, Kokrajhar met a road mishap at Habrubari over bridge this morning around 4.30 am with his bike. Bike rider injury was immediately rushed to Kokrajhar hospital.Jangila was hailed from Baganpur Nikashi of Baksa district and lived at rented lodging in Kokrajhar.

Police arrested a hardcore NDFB-S militant from Kahurbaha in Baksa district on Wednesday. Identified as Maidee Basumatary, he was captured during an operation by a group of Tamulpur police early in the morning. Police further claimed to have seized two grenades, 4 detonators along with 2 fuse wires and 4 demand notes from his possession.

The Bodoland Students Union (BSU) has appealed to the Northeast people to vote for Proneeta Swargiary who is a finalist in the ongoing DID Season 5, dancing competition in the ZEE TV. Addressing a press conference in Kokrajhar on Tuesday, BSU president Swgwnsar Basumatary said the love and wish for her would no less help her fetch pride and glory for the north east. They said the northeast people have been helping Debojit Saha, Sourabhee Debbarma and Nahid Afrin in the recently concluded Indian Idol Junior.  
Gossaigaon Salbagan FC beat City Police, Guwahati 2-0 on Monday's match of the Daoharu Mungklong Trophy being played at Dotma DASA ground in Kokrajhar. Monjit Rabha of Salbagan netted first goal in 22 minutes and Timothy Onyekae scored another goal in 36 minutes of the first half . United Peoples Front (UPF) claimed on Monday that it would play a prominent role in the formation of the next government in Dispur. Talking to reporters after addressing a rally in Chirang, the working head of the newly floated party said UPF will contest in 35 seats.“I believe that our party will be showing good performance in the autonomous council areas. UPF is a common platform of the councils in the state,” said Dr Rongpi. He said he was confident UPF will win in all contested seats and play a key role in the formation of govt.
