Journalists' workshop held at Udalguri

Udalguri District Journalists' Union organized a workshop for all the journalists of the district on November 28 on the theme “Role of media on present day changing society”. The workshop was held at the conference hall of the Udalguri Deputy Commissioner's office at 1 pm.More than hundred journalists belonging to both print and electronic media from Mazbat,Udalguri, Tangla, Khoirabari, Bhergaon,Kalaigaon etc took part in it.Presidents and secretaries of various organizations namely- ABSU,ATTSA, AKRSU,Sahitya Sabha,Municipality etc attended the workshop to exchange views on present day social and political problems of the district.Sadhana Hojai,Udalguri Deputy Commissioner formally inaugurated the workshop at 1 pm.On the occasion embers of Udalguri District Journalists' Union felicitated noted writer Thaneswar Malakar,former Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri for his social contribution for all round development of the people and maintaining peace and communal harmony in Udalguri during his tenure as the DC in Udalguri.He was felicitated with gamocha,japi, Xorai and a citation letter.Thanking all the people of Udalguri for offering cooperation for maintaining peace during most critical ethnic violence in the past.He requested journalists to spread the message of peace with positive minds.According to him media too has social responsibilities.Saying “Media is an unseen bridge between people and government”, he requested all to make the bridge strong.


Digambar Patowari,Principal Correspondent of “The Hindusthan Times”,who attended the workshop as the appointed speaker was also felicitaed with gamocha and japi.On the occassion Patowari described the important role played by Indian media since pre-independence times.He urged media people not to add personal views or color to any burrning or sensitive issues.He said that an unhealthy trend had been growing in India to control media posing serious threat to Indian media.The workshop was also attended by BTC Council Speaker Tridip Daimari.In his speech he thanked journalists of the district for supporting peace and communal harmony.He assured all jpurnalists to solve their genuine day to day problems. Dr.Luke Daimari,Principal,Udalguri College;senior journalists- Baidyanath Upadhyay and Arup Baruah spoke as appointed spekers while ATTSA Udalguri district president Ranjit Tanti; ABSU Udalguri district president Rinjoy Boro; Bhaben Rajbongshi,President,Udalguri district AKRSU exchanged viwes with journalists on the occassion.Senior journalist Bapan Sarma of Tangla was awarded with Late Hemchandra Talukdar Rural Journalist Award 2014.The workshop was presided over by Jayanta Kumar Das,Presedent,Udalguri District Journalists' Union while its secretary Dilip Baruah offered vote of thanks at the end.
