Assam Women’s University, Jorhat celebrated the 56th birthday of the Forest Man Padmashri Jadav Payeng at its premises on Saturday. In his honour, the day was christened as ‘Forest Day’ by the university. The celebration began with the planting of a sapling by the ‘Forest Man of India’ Jadav Payeng in the university campus. This was followed by a formal meeting wherein Jadav Payeng addressed the staff and students of the university. Jadav Payeng in his speech called upon the students of the university to carry out plantation as much as they can right from their student’s life. He also had the opinion that environmental science should be taught to the students to motivate them to make the earth green through plantation. The welcome speech was delivered by the Registrar of AWU, Sewali Bordoloi. The Mentor of AWU, Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah also addressed the meeting. The programme came to an end with the interaction between the students and Padmashree Jadav Payeng.
Assam Women’s University(AWU) which is located at Rowriah, Jorhat celebrated its first foundation day on 11th September, 2015. The University which began its journey on the 11th of September 2014, has three hundred and twenty six students on its rolls and about thirty eight faculty members of fifteen departments.The programme began with the hoisting of the university flag at 10.30 am by the Honourable Vice Chancellor of AAU, Jorhat and Mentor of AWU, Dr. K.
