Women varsity anniv

Assam Women’s University(AWU)  which is located at Rowriah, Jorhat celebrated its first foundation day on 11th September, 2015. The University which began its journey on the 11th of September 2014, has three hundred and twenty six students on its rolls and about thirty eight  faculty members of  fifteen departments.

The programme began with the hoisting of the university flag at 10.30 am by the Honourable Vice Chancellor of AAU, Jorhat and Mentor of AWU, Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah in the presence of the Registrar, Smt K.Gohain, IAS, the Officer on Special Duty Dr. S. Islam , the faculty members and the students.

This was followed by a meeting which began at 11am.  In his welcome speech Dr.KM Buzarbaruah gave a brief account of the initiation and progress of the Women’s University. The chief guest of the meeting was the education minister, Sri Sarat Barkataky who assured the gathering that he would ensure the smooth progress of the University in terms of sanctioning of posts and all other requirements. The Foundation Day Lecture was delivered by Dr. Alak Kr. Buragohain, the Vice -Chancellor of Dibrugarh University.  Sri Kamakhya Prasad Tasha, MP of Jorhat constituency, spoke on the occasion and urged the academic community to build up the standards and ethics of an ideal institution. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks from the OSD, Dr. Swabera Islam.

The day long programme included an inter-college quiz competition and a cultural programme.
