NE gets external affairs ministry branch office in Guwahati

The ministry of external affairs has open its North east branch liason office in th city on Sunday. Inaugurating the office, external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee said the new branch secretariat would go a long way in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of the NE region in having better liason with the External Affairs Ministry on issues concerning foreign trade, foreign direct investment and cultural exchanges.

The minister urged the north eastern states to take advantage of the new branch secretariat to move forward with Look East policy and greater coordination and planning by the North Eastern Council (NEC).

Mr Mukherjee stressed the need to improve connectivity saying economic development of the area depends on how fast we can build connectivity between ASEAN and neighbouring countries with NE region.

The victim in the molestation case in Guwahati said that she had gone to the pub to attend the birthday of a friend on Monday night. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni urged media to deal with the Guwahati molestation case with due sensitivity. Talking to reporters, Soni said that media should make people aware of such incidents, care should be taken not to hurt the feelings of the victims.
