In yet another major change in the pre poll political landscape in Dima Hasao district, several Congress leaders are believed to have been preparing to join BJP. The date of joining has yet to be decided. Even after Thaosen quit the post, BJP has not formed it only because of the deal. They include Debojeet Thaosen, Kulendra Daulagupu, Denis Teron, Laljoshua Baite, Devojit Bathari, Samuel Changsan and Tushar Kanti Deb who have agreed to join BJP if they are allowed to remain in power.

The sudden development took place a few days after the Debojeet Thaosen resigned after the Congress-led council was reduced to minority when 2 members joined BJP apart from three independents.

Such folly & greedy act on the part of congress influence people to enter BJP is unwelcomed. These people have completely eaten up all developmental funds. I myself have supported Mr.Samuel Changsan but after seeing his double face I have ceased to follow his footsteps. They should be barred from this district altogether

Explosion of uneasy revelation

Sensational revelations have come to light after the powerful grenade explosion severed hands of Raju Ali in Sivasagar town on Tuesday.Ali told police that he saw two motorcycle born youths lobbed the grenade at him. But according to sources, he was an army informer and he kept some explosives inside his home in BG Road near the Station Chariali. Notably, crude bombs were found in and around his residents at regular intervals.    The explosion took place at his house at around 11 in the morning. Ali’s hands were severed under the impact of the explosion.Later security forces recovered one more crude bomb inside his house. Ali was rushed to the Assam Medical College Hospital....

Now Kalita first choice

In a sudden move the AICC has changed the order of candidates fielded for the upcoming Rajya Sabbha polls.APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita is given the first choice taking Dr Sanjay Singh to the second choice while Biswajeet Daimary would be the third choice candidate.  AICC has changed the order of candidates after Haidor Hussain filed nomination as the Opposition’s consensus candidate.    

Attack on NDFB designated camp

An irate mob in Dhekiajuli vandalized NDFB’s designated camp hours after Sonitpur additional S Guljar Hussian and a policemen were killed in an encounter at Haulangi on Tuesday.Local residents in large number came out the street and thronged the NDFB designated camp. A section of the people attacked several pro talk militants while some others vandalized the designated camp.Later security forces rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Stern action against NDFB-S

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday ordered intensified action against NDFB-S militants after they killed Sonitpur’s additional SP Guljar Hussain and a policeman at an encounter in Dhekiajuli in the morning.Talking to reporters at the Assam Assembly secretariat in Dispur, Gogoi said that the government won’t allow the Bodo militant outfits to carry out any attack further.

Happy to represent Assam

Rajya Sabha poll candidate Dr Sanjay Singh said that he would be happy if he is given a chance to represent Assam in the Rajya Sabha.Talking to reporters in the Assam Assembly secretariat after filing his nomination as the first choice candidate, Dr Singh said  that he would always raise his voice in the Rajya on behalf of Assam and its people. 

We will win RS poll: CM

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is confident that the ruling party would be able to win the three Rajya Sabha polls.Talking to reporters after filing of nomination papers by Sanjay Singh and Bhubneswar Kailta at the Assam Assembly secretariat on Tuesday, Gogoi that they have every strength to win the polls.He added that he was happy to have Dr Singh as the Rajya Sabha MP from the state.

Bomb blast in Sivasagar

A powerful grenade explosion has left one person injured in Sivasagar town on Tuesday.The explosion took place at a house in Station Chariali at around 11 in the morning. Identified as Raju Ali, the injured has lost one of his hands under the impact of the explosion.The bomb was believed to have been brought to explode on the Republic day and was kept inside the house.Security forces rushed to the spot and sent the injured Ali to the Assam Medical College Hospital.         

Singh files nomination

Despite widespread resentment in the rank and file of Congress, Sanjay Singh filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha poll slated for February 7.Singh submitted his nomination papers in presence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita along with several ministers and Congress leaders before returning officer Gauranga Prasad Das. Singh is the party’s first choice candidate.

Kalita third choice

APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha polls and the third choice candidate on Tuesday.Kalita filed his nomination in presence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, parliamentary affairs minister Nilomoni Sen Deka, Rekibuddin Ahmed, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma along with several ministers and Congress leaders before returning officer Gauranga Prasad Das.However, Kalita’s safe passage meets with increasing difficulties as the Opposition camp is fielding Haidor Hussain a consensus candidate.

Addl SP killed in encounter

An additional superintendent of police was among two were killed in an encounter with NDFB-S in Sonitpur district on Tuesday.The encounter took place at Batashipur in Dhekiajuli along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh interstate border where additional SP Guljar Hussain and a policeman were killed. At least 6 other policemen were injured and they were shifted to the nearest hospital.Hussain has left behind a 3-year-old daughter and a 15 days old infant son.
