Durga puja festivity gathers momentum

Amid an undeclared crowd pulling competition, Durga puja festivity gathers momentum across the state on Tuesday. Puja pendals have started teeming with the devotees of all ages from early in the morning on Tuesday a day after the idols of the goddess of strength were installed. 

With bunches of flowers and other materials in their hands, the devotees are waiting in long queues before the idols in Guwahati to offer pujas to the goddess of strength. 

“The weather is fine. We are trying our best to make the puja a grand success. From early this morning the devotees are waiting to offer puja. We are holding the puja fulfilling the criteria of the district administration. We have installed CCTV camera to monitor the movement of the people,” said an organizer in Beltola. 

Many programmes are also lined up for show in the sidelines of the main event. These include drawing competition, extempore speech competition for the children. Many organizations have announced a number of awards for the puja pendals on different sides.

The Kamrup(metro) administration has restricted the movement of city buses in the city from afternoon on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to help the pedestrians visit the puja till late night hours.
