No more gambling: ABSU

The All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) of Kokrajhar dsitrict unit submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner, Kokrajhar & superintendent of police demanding prohibiting organising of gambling and etc. at various melas during puja occasions in Kokrajhar  disrict.

It was in a statement by Premjit Narzary and Nion Mushahry, secretary of the ABSU  Kokrajhar district unit. The union placed some reasons in support of stopping the gambling at melas during puja occasions as it is seen that illegal games like gambling etc are found available within the puja Melas causing misuse of time and money to young people(generation) as well as society at large.

It creates intolerable public noises to residents of adjacent places of puja melas and it degrades public morals and decency.

Selling and extensive use of intoxicating substances, even by some boys of tender age is found  within the puja mela premises posing trouble for their physical and mental health.

The scene of riding bike with over-speed by the youngsters on public road is seen frequently around the puja  melas causing inconvenience to the passers-by.

Many unnoticed legal and social crimes crept in during these puja Melas, inside and outside the puja  mela premises  that does not come under the direct notice of  police and society.

No engagement of volunteers are found available in any puja mela for the reason of security of public in need.

The union has urged district administration to check and stop of all kinds of gambling during puja  melas before its organized in the district.
