Manipur JAC thanks tribal leaders

The Churachandpur Joint Action Committee thanked P A Sangma, Neiphiu Rio, Lalthanhawla, T. R Zaliang for throwing their weights behind the tribal agitators in Manipur who will have to bear the brunt of the controversial bills if cleared by the Centre.

In a statement, JAC said that the tribal leaders of their stature acknowledging the plight of the underprivileged people and the standing up for the cause of tribal unity in realizing the dream of self-governance within the purview of the Indian Constitution.

 According to JAC, Sangma, Rio, Lalthanhawla and Zaliang are the need of the hour to fight against the implementation of the three infamous bills which are intended to curtail the rights of tribals in Manipur.

Freedom fighter Haipu Jadonang was fondly remembered on his 86th death anniversary across Manipur on Tuesday, with many leaders paying homage to him.  Haipou Jadonang (1905-1931) was a spiritual leader and political activist who fought against the British colonialism in Manipur. Manipur on Thursday paid homage to former Chief Minister and Congress veteran leader Rishang Keishing at his funeral held at his Mantripukhri private residence here.  Rishang Keishing breathed his last on August 22 at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal. He was 96.  He is survived by his wife Khatingla Keishing, three sons and one daughter.  He was given a proper burial by the state at his residence.
