Incentive to brilliant students in BTC

Altogether five brilliant students who secured positions in the last HSLC and HS examinations for the year 2014 & 2015 were  felicitated and handed over cheque amounting Rs 2 lakhs each by the Director of Education, BTC .

BTC deputy chief, handed over the cheques at his office chamber at the BTC Secretariat in Kokrajhar today. 

Among the students receiving the cheques are Hriday Jyoti Ojha from National Pioneer College, Tangla of Ualguri, who stood 5th position in the HS in 2014, Ashim Majumdar of St John’s HS school, Barama of Baksa who stood 4th position in the HSLC in 2015, Bibekajyoti Boro of Sankardev Vidyaneketan, Tamulpur in Baksa, 10 position in the HSLC in 2015, Aithjhya Bhaduri and Priyasa Kundu, both  of Bongaigaon Refinery HS school, Dhaligaon in Chirang and secured 5th and 8th position respectively in the HSLC 2015.

Borgoyary said that the BTC authority was   working to encourage the students to work hard and council will be giving helping hand to brilliant students who are aspired tithe good career in their higher studies. He said 18 students from the Bodoland region who have been selected and got admitted in the IIT and IIM will also be given the incentive for their higher studies. 

Borgoyary also said that BTC authority will give scholarships to 25-30 brilliant students preparing for UPSC examination from the region.

Kokrajhar police claimed to have arrested five timber smuggles on Thursday hours after they attacked 5 forest officials in Jharabari in the wee hours.Policemen probing the incident have been interrogating the arrested youths to extract more information on the entire network.Attacks on forest officials by timber smugglers are not new. It has been taking place at regular intervals from 2011, mostly, in Haltugaon and Kachugaon Forest division in Kokrajhar.
Despite a set of strictures timber smugglers are still active in the BTAD forest areas. Four forest officials sustained injury when timber smugglers attacked them at Jharbari in Kokrajhar district on Thursday. The incident of attack took place in the wee hours where a huge group of teak smugglers targeted Jharbari Ranger Manik Brahma along with three of his assistants. Others include Rajendra Muchahary, Prahlad Borgoyary and Amio Muchahary. Armed with sharp weapons and sticks, the smugglers numbering around 35-40 started beating up the forest officials as they spotted them travelling on Zypsi and a Tata mobile van which were also damaged. Security forces have claimed that three hardcore cadres of NDFB-S along three linkmen were arrested and huge cache of arms were also recovered from Salbari area of Baksa district today. Security forces belonging to Assam Police and Army carried out a search operation at Salbari area this morning and manage to recovered huge arms of the NDFB-S members which are kept inside a room of Baksa district, said a senior police officer.

 Police arrested two NDFB-S linkmen from Jordanpur under Serfanguri Police of Kokrajhar district late last evening. Police said that duo were involved extortion since long days and were arrested by police. The arrested were identified as June Basumatary and Mausrang Basumatary of Jordanpur village. A pistol, one magazine, six round bullets, two hand grenades recovered from their possession.
