Akhil mulls third front

Finally Akhil Gogoi has made up his mind to take on Congress and BJP with a third front to fight the assembly polls early next year. Talking to reporters in Kaziranga on Monday, the KMSS-GMS leader said the third front will be emerging as a reliable alternative for the people to get rid of Congress-BJP mis-governance. 

Akhil said that the third front will comprise regional parties, Left parties and the tribal organizations who won’t allow Congress and BJP to retain power. He blamed it all on the ruling Congress for the Sunday’s incident where many people sustained injury at a function organized to distribute thread and blankets among the poor people. “We won’t allow them to befool the people further. BJP is not different,” said Gogoi.

He said that it was high time to form a third front to weed out both Congress and BJP in the upcoming election.

Yoga and naturopathy Camp

Vishwa Dharma Chetna Manch and Sri Brahmarishi Ashram Ramapuram Tirupathy is jointly organizing a free yoga and naturopathy health camp at Maheswari Bhawan in Golaghat Sunday. Swimming competition in Golaghat

The Golaghat District Sports Association will organize an inter district swimming competition on November 7 and 8. Talking to Assam Times, the organization’s general secretary Sanjib Handique said that two days event is slated to take place at the local swimming pool in Golaghat. He said that at organizing committee has been formed to host the event.

Clear bonus by Oct 5 to workers

The Golaghat district administration on Tuesday asked the tea garden managements to clear the bonus to the workers by October 5. Deputy Commissioner Anarul Haque on Tuesday issued the order after a meeting with the various tea group owners. He ordered the owners to discuss the bonus amount with the workers to resolve the issue amicably.

Stop hob-knobbing with cattle smugglers

One after another expose seem to have left the Golaghat police red faced. After the stunning extortion near Dergaon the other day, a section of policemen draws more ire from a number of organizations. The Hindu Jagaran Manch on Monday has accused a section of policemen of aiding and abetting the cattle thieves. In a statement, the organization’s president Jayanta Goswami and General Secretary Achyut Nath warned the policemen of dire consequences if they are found to be associated with the cattle thieves.They further demanded stern action against the cattle lifters and the policemen who have allegedly been helping them.

Dr Bora receives Abdul Malik award

Assam Sahitya Sbaha president Dr Dhrubajyoti Bora received the Syed Abdul Malik award at a function in Golaghat on Sunday. Instituted by the Golaghat branch of Asom Sahitya Sabha, the award was given away to Dr Bora for his novel Swargadopi dealing with the life and contribution of Biju Vaishnav, the martyr of the independence struggle hailing from the Numaligarh tea garden area.Several prominent persons attended the function at the Amateur Theatre Hall in Golaghat.

Veer Birochan Chutia memorial

The people in a huge area of Golaghat district on Sunday are all set to revive the real contribution of a forgotten hero whose name is missing in the history because of the conspicuous ignorance of the local historians.A gathering at the Jamuguri Public Hall will assess the sacrifice of Birochan Chutia who was killed by the British rulers at Rongpur when he was the station head to be disobeyed the rulers. The local people will commemorate his sacrifice at the function beside releasing a book Chutia's life and workings.
