Adivasi Mahasabha to starts from Oct 4
A hectic preparation is in full swing to host 12th Adivasi Mahasabha with three days colourful programme scheduled at Magurmari High School ground from October 2 next in Kokrajhar district.
Stephen Lakra, working president of the Reception Committee of the Mahasabha told that the Mahasabha has been organising to uplift social, literary and community integration of the Adivasi in Assam as well across the country.
Over 2000 delegates from various districts of Assam are participating in the grand function, besides 50,000 people's thronged has been expected on the open session of the Mahasabha. The reception committee has engaged 150 volunteers to serve the Mahasabha to market a grand successful which is the biggest function of the Adivasi community in the state.
Dr Rameswar Oraon, chairman National Commission for Scheduled Tribes will grace as chief guest, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary has consented to grace as inaugurator on the open session on October 4, Lakra said.

A cultivator died and two others sustained serious injury when lightning struck three different parts of Kokrajhar district on Tuesday.The first incident took place in Salani Bhatabari near Dotma where Suren Roy died at his field along with his two bullocks.In the second incident, Seven Brahma of Daloabari was seriously injured near his home. He is battling for life at the Rupnath Brahma Civil hospital.In yet another incident Abul Ali Sheikh of Monakocha village under Fakirgaram PS was also sustained serious injury while one of his bullocks died. Security forces claimed to have caught a dreaded NDFB-S militant in Kokrajhar on Tuesday.He was caught during a joint operation by army and police in Surenderpur Ghat area of Gossaigaon.According to reports, he was a 2011 batch trained NDFB(S) cadre.Two hand grenades along with some 7.65mm ammunition were also seized from him.

The National Investigation Agency has chargesheeted four hardcore NDFB-S militants in the gory Adivasi carnage in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts . In its chargesheet filed before a special court in Guwahati on Monday, NIA has named Ajay Basumatary alias B Buhum alias Birkhang Basumatary, Dilip Basumatary alias B Birbaisha alias Birbhai alias Lambu, Khamrei Basumatary alias B Udla alias Urla and Nitul Daimary alias D Naihab alias Naihab.Of them, three have been languishing in jail after they were caught in Kohima. The fourth one was arrested in Biswanath Chariali area.At least 30 people were killed in a series of simultaneous attack in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts on December 23.

The People's Coordination for Democratic Rights (PCDR) is going all out against illegal tax collection in BTAD areas.The organization will be on a 36 hour strike on Tuesday alleging illegal tax near Srirampur inter-state checkgate in Kokrajhar district.PCDR leaders told Assam Times that the illegal tax collection was to be blamed for the steep rise in prices of essential commodities.“Prices will not come down as long as the illegal tax collection is not stopped,” they said. "You will find it strange to lean that a vehicle is forced to pay Rs 600 at the checkgate. That too in full view of police,” said the community leaders.
