Adivasi Mahasabha to starts from Oct 4
A hectic preparation is in full swing to host 12th Adivasi Mahasabha with three days colourful programme scheduled at Magurmari High School ground from October 2 next in Kokrajhar district.
Stephen Lakra, working president of the Reception Committee of the Mahasabha told that the Mahasabha has been organising to uplift social, literary and community integration of the Adivasi in Assam as well across the country.
Over 2000 delegates from various districts of Assam are participating in the grand function, besides 50,000 people's thronged has been expected on the open session of the Mahasabha. The reception committee has engaged 150 volunteers to serve the Mahasabha to market a grand successful which is the biggest function of the Adivasi community in the state.
Dr Rameswar Oraon, chairman National Commission for Scheduled Tribes will grace as chief guest, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary has consented to grace as inaugurator on the open session on October 4, Lakra said.

Chirang police have arrested the UP youths for alleged ATM theft in the district on Tuesday. Identified as Shivanshu Diwedi and Nijakat Khan, both of Kidwai Nagar (Kanpur Nagar district) and Anupam Mishra of Ram Nagar (Agara district), they were picked up from Dhaligaon area on Monday night after they looted Rs 20000 using a stolen ATM card from a school teacher.The school teacher received an alert notice in his mobile number of withdrawing Rs 20,000 and informed the police who later arrested the trio.

The All Bodo Women Welfare Federation is unhappy with Kochugaon police for failing to arrest the two army jawans who allegedly raped a local woman inside a school building.Addressing a press conference in Kokrajhar, the organization president Mithinga Basumatary said that the district administration was given 7 days to nab the culprits. Police claimed to have killed a dreaded KLO militant at an encounter in Kokrajhar district on Friday amid stepped up security in the run up to the Independence Day.Identified as Rabi Roy, the KLO militant was killed as he was trying to plant a bomb on a railway track.
