Adivasi Mahasabha to starts from Oct 4

A hectic preparation is in full swing to host 12th Adivasi Mahasabha with three days colourful programme scheduled at Magurmari High School ground from October 2 next in Kokrajhar district. 

Stephen Lakra, working president of the Reception Committee of the Mahasabha told that the Mahasabha has been organising to uplift social, literary and community integration of the Adivasi in Assam as well across the country. 

Over 2000 delegates from various districts of Assam are participating in the grand function, besides 50,000 people's thronged has been expected on the open session of the Mahasabha. The reception committee has engaged 150 volunteers to serve the Mahasabha to market a grand successful which is the biggest function of the Adivasi community in the state

Dr Rameswar Oraon, chairman National Commission for Scheduled Tribes will grace as chief guest, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary has consented to grace as inaugurator on the open session on October 4, Lakra said.

Security forces captured yet another dreaded NDFB (Songbijit) militant in Chirang district on Wednesday who was involved in the gory Adivasi massacre in 2014. Identified as Saranjoy Musahary, who was involved in the Adivasi carnage was held by a joint team of police and CRPF from Patabari area in the wee hours during a combing operation by Police and CRPF's Cobra battalion. He was believed to have killed at least ten Adivasi people in Lungsung forest area in Kokrajhar district in December last year.Police further seized a grenade was from the Myanmar-trained militant. Chirang police have arrested the UP youths for alleged ATM theft in the district on Tuesday. Identified as Shivanshu Diwedi and Nijakat Khan, both of Kidwai Nagar (Kanpur Nagar district) and Anupam Mishra of Ram Nagar (Agara district), they were picked up from Dhaligaon area on Monday night after they looted Rs 20000 using a stolen ATM card from a school teacher.The school teacher received an alert notice in his mobile number of withdrawing Rs 20,000 and informed the police who later arrested the trio.

The All Bodo Women Welfare Federation is unhappy with Kochugaon police for failing to arrest the two army jawans who allegedly raped a local woman inside a school building.Addressing a press conference in Kokrajhar, the organization president Mithinga Basumatary said that the district administration was given 7 days to nab the culprits. Flood waters in Kokrajhar wreaked no less havoc submerging a huge area in the district on Sunday. Much to the panic of the hundreds of local residents, the surging waters of the river Champamoti have engulfed the Karigaon police outpost.The water level is still on the rise posing a serious threat to more and more areas of the BTAD district.The situation is set to take a grim turn if the rains refuse to halt on the foothills of Bhutan.The policemen have no option but to shift to the safer places in the district.
